Bought this laptop for browsing the Internet and general everyday things. Had seen YouTube videos of the same spec laptops playing e sports titles such as fortnite at around 60 fps which would suit me.
The mx350 graphics should be able to cope.
So I installed fortnite and a few other e sports titles and began to play.
The games started off fine especially fortnite as I was getting around 72 fps at 1080p low settings….. for about 30 seconds and the the framerate dropped to around 17 fps and became a stuttery mess.
My older ultrabook with the older Ryzen 2500u performs better than this laptop and it doesn’t have a dedicated gpu like the mx350.
The point is give this laptop anything remotely taxing to do and it will overheat and thermal throttle.
Such a shame as its a well built and good looking laptop.
I am returning the laptop.
A Bainbridge –
In laptop terms this isn’t expensive but what you get really looks amazing. It’s quick, small, lightweight and so easy to grab and stick in a little sleeve to work anywhere. The screen is bright and the sound is good especially when it’s on a table rather than your lap. I read some other reviews so I knew it was a good specification for my work and digital photography. The best thing is the speed of startup, compact size and metal body. It really looks and feels far more expensive. I did research reading about Asus being a less trusted brand over ones like HP and they spend the money on good parts. So far after a couple of months I am very pleased.
