I was initially concerned by the conflicting statements in reviews for this printer model (including those for related models – not just this white one) that varied from “easy to install” to being “very difficult”. I bought it in spite of those negative comments.

I can only comment about Windows 10 installation but I can state that this printer installation was by far easier than any previous printer, and I have installed many different printers over the years since I bought my first PC in 1990 (and also helping out friends as their “IT expert”). It does most of the installation automatically. Just follow the installation instructions! Connection to the Internet is required. Installation on my second family laptop was equally easy. The printer even performed an update for itself itself directly from the Internet a few days later when I switched it on.

The printer and scanner work well and it produces excellent print quality and good scans on the tests I have performed. I have not yet…

So easy to set up with step by step instructions. Easy to connect to MacBook. Really pleased with this printer.

I bought this printer as a small business investment to print A4 sheets of custom stickers. This function however is not supported! The printer is only programmed to accept Canon paper types and Canon does not make A4 sticker paper for some bizarre reason… There is a sticker function but it will only print 4″ x 6″, which I find absolutely random. There is a work around if you’re willing to dedicate some time installing alternative software, but according to Canon tech support loading A4 sticker sheets “may damage the printer”.
On the subject of Canon tech support… I’ve actually received two of these printers, as the first one was incorrectly diagnosed to have a print head alignment fault. I waited for the replacement to arrive and it behaved exactly the same way, then commenced a truly painful back and forth email exchange which spanned over 2 weeks before I finally got through over the phone and the problem was successfully identified.
If you want something really versatile and…

Looks good and performs well. Downside is small info window at front rather than on top. Most printers do not sit on high tables and if youโ€™re older you might have difficulty reading the info window. Only two cartridges and they were used ultra quickly. Bit of a shock after last printer. They are pricey so whilst the printer might be a good price replacement cartridges are not.

Big on promise but small on delivery in terms of ease of use. Frustrating and complex to actually get to interact with smartphone or iPad. A little easier with a laptop.
The controls and the practicality of use should be more intuitive – it is not.
I very much doubt Iโ€™ll be buying a Canon product again.

I have to say from the start, that me and tech, tend to have a sometimes fraught relationship and this is a GOOD device overall, worth the money, does what it says it will, looks good, prints well (so far) but two things knock it down from five star perfect. Firstly the age old cost of replacement inks – it’s INK, not liquid gold and it’s frankly in my opinion, an industry wide rip off, but ‘whattya gonna do?’ and secondly back to fraught tech relationships, because of that, any new tech I get, I follow the steps for set up like my life depended on it and I did so here, so it’s annoying when a little screen on the front of the printer says ‘alignment’ will take approximately five minutes and my machine took FOUR HOURS. Whether it was the translation from Japanese (where Canon originates from) I don’t know. I also don’t know if it was me and my personal tech gremlins at work, but how about instead of the five minute thing, it says ‘alignment in progress, please wait’ – just a…

If you need a printer ASAP, and you’ve had earlier Canon printers that you could live with this’ll probably do the job for you too. Yes you’ve got me.

I was initially frustrated with my purchase, so I shared my rant with what I thought might benefit other technophobes! Probably just a weakness to communicate born of my impotency.

With techie help; it is now functioning. Print quality is as good as my previous ip4200 which lasted me many years until I couldn’t get supporting software for that earlier model.

Still haven’t worked out any function beyond a few test prints (more indicative of my low intelligence than the printer’s short comings). NB: The introduction instruction manual has 12 languages; English not included. Make of that what you will.
