I bought this drill for my son, who is over the moon with it. The only thing was you get no drill bits with it (not even 1). Hence my rating of 4 stars

Make sure the direction button is in the forwards or reverse position. If it is in the middle the drill will not operate. Both the manual and the technical helpline neglected to tell me this, and advised me to order another, even though I asked if thete was something I needed to do before drill would operate! I discovered it after ordering a second drill. Happy with the actual drill, it is solid and powerful.

My first Dewalt drill lasted 20 years before I could no longer find spare batteries – As I recall I went through 4 batteries in those 20 years with pretty intense use. This drill was bought as a replacement along with a 5ah battery. It is lighter and provides more torque than my old drill. In fact on the highest torque setting and screwing hex head lag bolts I would advise holding it firmly with both hands!
I used it the other day to drill 4 x 8mm holes in brick using the hammer function – took seconds. Pretty impressive performance.

Yes, a bit silly really sticking to my old electric drills with extension leads and electric cables all over the place. However, I finally got around to buying one and I’ve had a long time deciding on which one was the better option for me knowing most of the hard DIY work over the years had long gone. After much deliberation, I decided on this DEWALT 18V Cordless Combi Drill. I’m still in awe at how easy and convenient it is to work with. Just finished screwing down 16 sq metres of new floorboards in the attic, a job I was dreading, but this DEWALT Cordless Drill made mincemeat of the job. I’m a happy man . .

This is a great DIY drill. Powerful hammer action and battery life lasts longer than you expect. I was going to buy a spare battery just in case but have found I don’t need to. Lightweight and variable speed for screw driving.

I have used this for a few months now and am impressed. I bought another battery but rarely need to change it. Good for screw-driving and for drilling. Comes with a good box and a set of drill bits. Not too heavy. Highly recommended and worth paying a bit more for.

Very much liked how neat and secure it was packed for delivery.
Hesitated to step up to this brand bracket, price wise it was a leap for me. It was never intended to be used as a drill for a couple of holes or putting up the occasional shelf. (Mind you I have used it for doing just that too, lol)
Comes with branded DeWalt carry case, one battery 18v 1.3AH and charger plus instructions and warranty. (It is worth completing the warranty, doesn’t take long)
Battery takes about an hour to charge. Length of use from charge depends on materials being drilled/driven into. The hammer setting is good but obviously drains battery quicker. Higher AH rated 18v batteries can be used
(just remember your warranty is invalid if you use none DeWalt parts with it! I wonder how they find out?)
I’ve been using it a lot as a ‘Combi’ drill and the only issue after 3 weeks is it tends to snap cheaper drill bits.
In summary. I’m pleased I made the leap to this bracket, it is worth the extra cost, inc new drill…

The last time I bought a cordless drill a few years ago it was between this and a much cheaper Bosch. I decided on the Bosch and then regretted it. The chuck used to visibly wobble meaning it wasn’t properly centered. The batteries died after a really short time. I’ve bought this now which I should have done in the first place so I’ve ended up spending more than I would have done if I’d just trusted my gut. The De Walt instantly had the feel of high quality. Something that the Bosch didn’t. It’s no wonder that all tradesmen seem to use them.
It’s very powerful, one word of warning that you have to grip it quite tightly otherwise you can hurt your hand. My only slight complaint is it doesn’t have any manual and I don’t really know what the different settings do. But I can look it up so no big deal.
