Its a real shame, but this doesn’t arrive with any instructions or software, despite what it says in the manufacturers description. The dashboard software mentioned on the packaging does not support installation, and merely gives information about the drive function. After literally hours spent trawling through the Sandisk Website, registering the device, trying (failing) to contact product support, I found the answer by looking back at past reviews – you have to ‘ask a question’, on the sandisk support page, and the question is ‘acronis true image’, and only then do you get the link to the software.
But your problems aren’t over then, as the downloaded software doesn’t recognise the drive as being present (even though the SD Dashboard app previously mentioned does), and so tries to get you to upgrade for ยฃ35.
And the final straw was reading through the reviews and seeing the number of drives that failed after a few months.
So the choice is yours, if you want to spend hours trying to…

    Failed after 3 months!

This drive worked superbly well for a short time – great speed, faster than my tablet from a standing start! – but after a while my laptop was visited by gremlins: plugging in a usb device could cause a crash, or a crash could happen spontaneously for no apparent reason. At first I suspected the usb sockets, and tried eliminating various devices
    – even resorted to wired keyboard and mouse for a time, which seemed to solve the problem.

However, a couple of days ago the drive completely failed – laptop wouldn’t boot up, even with a usb emergency disc.

Removed SSD and laptop booted up fine with the emergency disk, so reinstalled steam-driven cloned drive and returned SSD for refund.

Very disappointing, as early signs were hopeful, and the performance was great.

    Hey ho!!

I was told the biggest speed improvement you can make to a computer is to fit a SSD, well I was amazed it was a vast difference, in my case I cloned my old drive over to this one, the boot/shutdown, programmes everything so much faster, SanDisk is a very good make as far as I am concerned a great purchase, I am now considering a second for my desktop, very happy.

It’s a simple, though time consuming process, to clone the existing HDD to the SSD. The use of USB/SATA cable allows the SSD to be connected without opening the computer, and is essential when intending to upgrade a laptop. The cable is very cheap (a few pounds only) and one end attaches the SSD and other plugs into a USB port. If you have USB3, then make sure you get a USB3 cable.
If, as often happens, the SSD is not visible in File Explorer (or whatever system you are using), then you must use your system’s utility to initialise it. When that is done it will then appear as just an empty disk.
The next job is to clone the current hard-drive to it. If the SSD is smaller than the HDD, then you will probably need to re-partition the HDD to shrink the partition first. This will result in empty space which you never, and will never, use, so it doesn’t matter. Once the HDD partition you want to clone will fit onto the new SSD you can use a free program such as Macrium Reflect to do the…

I bought 2 of these just to add some speedier storage to my gaming system. I wasn’t expecting the world, I have an M.2 Samsung with 3K+MB/s read and writes and another Samsung EVO 860 SSD raid with 1.5kMB/s read and write. I was, however, expecting speeds that came close to those claimed by SanDisk. After all, every other SSD I’ve had in this system and those still in it (all made by Samsung, 850s in the past, and 860’s currently) had all exceeded their claimed speeds.

Connected to a 6GB/s connection, individually these drives get the speeds posted in pic (1), 377MB/s read and 146.1MB/s write (have done many many tests and they are very consistent). In raid0 the pair of these drives gets, as seen in pic (2) 400.6MB/s and 183MB/s write. I’ve added in a speed test from my other gaming machine (same mobo and cpu) just for the sake of comparison.

*****3rd pic is a pair of 6 year old Samsung EVO 850 250GB SSD’s for raid comparison*****

There is hardly performance increase in Raid0,…
