Digital Media Man –
Got this to replace my Xperia xz1 compact. No, the Xperia 5 is hardly a compact but at 6.1″, is smaller than many of the P30 type models on the market. It would seem that the days of really compact smartphones are truly over.
In use, fairly simple to set up but, unlike previous upgrades I have carried out were done using Sony’s own transfer app. Sadly there doesn’t appear to be a proprietary app available now to do this. I therefore had to use a third party app, which whilst successful, left some apps and data on the old phone. Neither does there appear to be a default mail app preloaded ( save for the ubiquitous Gmail app. So at the moment, I don’t have all my email accounts transferred over.
The OS is Android 10 and on setup, recognised that updates were available and these came down over wi-fi.The updates run sequentially by version number and so for me, there were no less than three!
As the phone is a recent item to arrive, I have yet to discover the features & benefits of the…

Being an iPhone user of several years, when the chance came to try an Android phone I felt quite excited about it. First of all, let me point out that in my trial version, all I had was the phone and charger, no headphones/ear buds were included. That said, this is my review of said phone.
GOOD POINTS
The phone is sleek, feels good in the hand, has a bright clear screen, good buttons on the side and is generally quite beautiful – well done SONY.
In use as a phone – up there with the best, clear voice through good speakers and microphones. Talking to a friend he said that my voice seemed exactly the same as on my iPhone and his voice sounded the same as well. Quality.
The screen is really bright and clear and is ideal for watching movies – I used my blue tooth headphone for the sound which is mind blowing. There is plenty of control with the sound too. The same with apps, great sound and high quality clear bright screen.
All the apps I tried were faultless and fast. Being Android there…
Mr Stephen P Palmer –
Upgrading from the old Sony Xperia XZ1 as after 3 years the battery has just started to lose charge.
One of the reasons I chose this phone was It’s size, it’s slimmer and perfect, making it easier too hold and use. A good pocket size compared to most other phones on the market right now, Bigger isn’t always better. The phone is much faster, the screen and audio is a great upgrade.
My XZ1 Camera was very good and still took great pics this was due to having Sony camera tech and 19MP. This phone has 12MP but 3x cameras and this is still more than enough as it gives you more shooting options and has Sony camera tech. The cameras works well and pictures look great.
The phone it’s self looks top class and well built. But it’s now in a case so not that important. I have dropped my XZ1 many a time and it just seemed to bounce back laughing. It also got accidentally submerged in water a few times and even though it made the sound go funny for a few hours it did nothing to damage the phone. So…
