Absolutely fuming with this drive. I’m running the beta version on my PS5, should work no issue. However I installed and it was dead.

My PS5 lights up and then spent around 20 seconds hanging, then it just turned off. No attempts could rectify this. As soon as I took it out the PS5 booted no problem.

I back installed to standard firmware and then back to beta, made sure everything was up to date but again it wouldn’t start with it. Exactly the same issue, blue lights, no HDMI signal and then off.

I tried it in my pc and what do you know? My pc wouldn’t post for half an hour. When it finally did my pc was locked completely on bios logo screen, keyboard was locked, mouse wasn’t lit. As soon as I removed it my pc booted!

Spoke to Sony who instantly said that the drive is at fault and they even told me they’ve had reports for this drive doing the same with others.

I’m going to pick a different brand. Waste of a an afternoon and for nothing.

Just installed this in the PS5 (as I am on the beta test for the latest patch) and can confirm it works fine. I coupled it with a Glotrend ยฃ12.99 heatsink (one sided as I bought the 1TB drive), and the PS5 instantly recognised it and reported it was capable of 6999mb/s. I moved a number of PS5 games across to it, and they are all playing with no issues.

To install I just flipped off the top of the PS5, removed the expansion plate, unscrewed the screw inside the slot (and removed the small silver ring), gently slotted the drive (now with heatsink stuck on top) into the slot of the left, and pushed down, put the silver ring into the whole under the screw (so the drive sat on top of it), and screwed the screw back in. I didn’t replace the drive cover to allow air in, and then replaced the PS5 top. And rebooted.
    Took about 4 minutes.

    Recommended.

    Beware!

I purchased the SN850 2TB model directly from Amazon as I wanted piece of mind. The box stated SN850 2TB, the sticker stated SN850 2TB but my PS5 wouldnโ€™t accept despite it being confirmed by Sony as being one of their compatible NVME drives.

I decided to connect the drive up to my PC and it was immediately detected as the inferior SN750.

Beware when purchasing! Please double check the drives model number on your PC to ensure that it is showing the correct model number. As I strongly believe I have been sent a customer return. But unfortunately the person who received this drive before me was dishonest to the point where they had swapped the labels around to make the SN750 look like a SN850.

If you find that your ps5 is running low on memory which you will, then this m.2 ssd is for you, well your ps5 actually. Takes roughly 5 minutes to install, itโ€™s a bit fiddly trying to remove the template of the ps5 as you canโ€™t help but feel apprehensive at doing this especially as itโ€™s not a cheap gaming unit, so for me that actually took the longest time, but once off itโ€™s quick – just be careful not to drop the black screws in the fan as itโ€™s right next to where you will be removing the metal plate the the inner screw with the little ring, be sure to put on the 2nd hole from the top, then angle the drive in, screw back in place and put the metal cover back also. And as you have the cover off this is a good time to blow out the fluff on the fan, as I had a little gathering up there – just a tip. Not bad for a year to have very little fluff on the outer fan. So once all back together itโ€™s the case screwing the base back on how you had it and powering up, message pops up m.2 ssd…

I was part of the PS5 firmware 2.0 beta test that allowed SSD expansion, this particular drive had been on my radar since the PS5 launched, so I took the plunge to see how it worked, alongside a monster heatsink!

It’s perfect, in many ways better than the stock SSD on the device. If you need more space in your PS5 and want the best performance, look no further than this excellent product

Works perfect for the ps5, just installed, but please do get a slim line heatsink

Super fast drive, but you need to know what youโ€™re doing before just buying!
Firstly if you want the fastest speeds you need a motherboard which supports PCIE v4 if youโ€™ve an older board then you can expect speeds of half what it states.
In my case, as an Intel chipset, so mine is paired with a Z590 board.
Again if youโ€™re Intel, youโ€™ll need an 11th gen chip or it wonโ€™t support v4 speeds. So again in my case Iโ€™ve got an i7 11700k.
Once Windows was installed, which was super quick, the machine flyโ€™s! Load times are almost instant, boot to windows is sub 10 seconds easy!
If youโ€™ve the right hardware or are upgrading, this drive is fantastic. If youโ€™ve older hardware then save your pennies and look at other options.

Great drive , really fast (PS5 measures at 6700mb/s) and it works with the PS5 Beta 2.0 Firmware.
