So far so good.. I purchased this not only to replace my Virgin router, which to be honest was fine but I was also looking for a router to attach a hard drive to.
This model ticks all they boxes so far. Connection and range of router is excellent, better than the Virgin one to be sure. I have had no drop outs as of yet and the only issue is the app from the playstore doesnt seem to work on my phone but that might be due to me.
So far excellent value for money. I have tried more expensive routers in the past and have always came across a problem which resulted in the item being sent back. As i said so far so good…

Depending on which combination of features you wanted this router for, this hub works great at an incredibly good price. I bought to replace my previous 4-port VDSL hub, which was a lot more expensive, after switching our broadband to 300Mb fibre The router works great and seems to have better range on the N (2.4Gh) band – and worked out of the box without any further configurations inputs so up and running from the box within a couple of minutes. It took me longer to make the cup of tea to go with it! However, I can’t get a USB-powered 4Tb portable storage drive to work off the USB port and will have to return the hub if the port doesn’t have enough power to power it. I’ve posted a query and will update this review if the supplier thinks the port should have enough power – but a great feature of these routers, when they work, is that you should be able to run an external storage drive directly off the usb giving you a network storage option for your whole network – but only if it…

Sometimes you wonder why you would spend ยฃ40 on a large, slightly ugly router with numerous aerials sticking out the top, when you already have a small and neat router from Virgin or BT tucked behind the TV.
Then you power up this beast and realise how much you’ve been missing out on, and how garbage the products you get bundled from BT and Virgin really are, despite their marketing. I can pick up the signal from this 3 floors away in a solid 1900s terraced house. Virgin? Not the next room.
I’m only using it as a secondary access point connected to the aforementioned Virgin Media hub so I can’t comment on all the many features it’s probably got, but it was easy enough to set up as an access point with an ethernet cable and works exactly as I wanted it to.
Powerful range, somewhat bigger than you want it to be and not the prettiest so hide it away somewhere, but a noticeable step up from the ISP’s supplied routers.

I don’t like writing bad reviews, but this device is just not up to the task I’m afraid. 4G reception is extremely poor, even when placed outside and in direct sight of the 4G mast. Where my phone receives 3 bar 4G signal indoors, this device does not register any 4G signal. Outdoors it scrapes 1 bar whereas my phone is showing full signal. Tech support has been ok to be fair (hence this is not a 1-star review) by guiding me through various attempted fixes, but nothing improves the signal. Whether I just have a duff device or not, I just don’t know, but I haven’t been offered a replacement. I wouldn’t recommend. Wasted ยฃ90.

I had hoped to use this as a backup connection for when my primary fixed line Internet goes out. I already have a palm sized MiFi device with a preloaded data SIM or can use an iPhone using Personal Network to share the 4G connection to other users. But my 4g coverage is weak and so I had hoped that this Wavlink devices would easily do a better job. It has 4 external aerials (2 x 5g WiFi, 1x 2.4g WiFi and 1 x 4g/LTE cellular). My iPhone and MiFi devices have only internal aerials. So seemed a no brainer that the Wavlink would do better.
Sadly not. I tried it in my loft (roof) space. I tried it where I get the best phone signal inside. I tried it outside. The signal strength was in fact worse than reported by my phone and MiFi device. And a throughput test supported that. I even tried three different cellular networks. While this failure to achieve the basic use case made the Wavlink a non-starter, I did also look at the WiFi strength. The product description makes bold claims of…
