Second update. Over a year on. The Asus Hub is sill going strong, I am not really that techy, which had been one of my concerns when purchasing. The app that accompanies the hub is such a wonderful and easy thing to use. A couple of weeks ago we suddenly experienced slow internet, with buffering and page drops. I run the speed test of the app and called Vodafone. When we got to the whole is the device you using connected via an ethernet cable. I was able to say no the actual test is being run by the modem router, I can send you a copy of the logs for the past three hours. No bull about placement or type of connection, the Vodafone tech and the initial I cannot see any connection issues dropped, his tone changed he said I will take another look, ten mins later it seems there had been an issue which he said was being dept with. Another five minutes and the speed test had us back up to normal.

Update, a few months on and it had been so nice to have fast trouble free WiFi. All the years…

The first thing I liked when opening the box was the design. This won’t be to everyone taste as it is a “gamer” style modem/router. I got it all plugged in and powered up with ethernet cable to my gaming pc. My PC detected internet and took me straight to the router settings. This was a mistake on my part as I closed this page down by mistake. It then took 15 mins for me to get back into it as the Instructions on how to do it wouldn’t work. In the end I turned the router off as well as my PC and started again. This worked and I started the setup.

You will need your ISP login detail which is a 5 min call to them. After putting in the login details away I went. The modem/router did a firmware update straight away which was good. Everything else was just working. I updated the Wi-Fi to 2.4 and 5ghz which was very simple. I connected all the devices in my home which was easy.
Then my kids where playing on the Xbox and PS4 they said it was very laggy
9Nat type strict) so I went into the…

The important thing you need to know is Asus use redirects in its browser links!
This is important because many modern browsers by default have a setting of not allowing redirects and popups.
(The app you download still uses your default browser).

It was only after hours I discovered this. When I reported problem before this discovery which appeared as DNS error I received an email back telling me to read the F**ing start guide (which does not explain this at all and is all of 4 pages long) and failing that factory reboot – clean cache etc etc. Whether this response was from an untrained human or an Artificial Unintelligent i dont know.

There are many other settings which if you are not familiar with you are left to experiment with because they are not explained.
Another great thing is that to even look at extended warranty they demand you download a further app! WHY?? you can register the product online but not extend your warranty .

I have been setting up modems since they first came…
