I initially found this printer while looking for a way of running a photobooth at our School Summer Fete offering instant prints. Compared to most of the other options, this little printer provides much better quality, much larger and cheaper printing than the competition. You can print up to postcard size (10x15cm right to the edge) and images are printed in approximately 1 minute. Kids (and grownups alike) find it mesmerising to watch the paper being fed through 4 times, adding each colour layer to the print. And as soon as they pop out, they are dry and mostly waterproof!
I’m reliably informed that the print process (dye-sublimation) is far superior to the print process of the various small format printers (Fuji Instax etc.) and I must say I’m impressed with the quality vs my great big A3+ Canon Pixma. It’s also certain to get a great deal more use than that too, due to size and ease of connection!
Print price is also excellent – you can pick up a 108 shot pack for approximately…

my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. in this day and age, when opening a box of something new is an acceptable form of media that literally millions watch, a device named SELPHY ships with no paper or ink; not even a meagre five that at least allows you to test it and get your printing thirst quenched. no paper. no ink. nada. and if you, like me, received it on a friday, you can’t get any until monday, so it kind of ruins your weekend too. truly remarkable.

We bought this because we take a lot of photos but they tend to just stay on the computer and we wanted to put some up on a notice board at home so we could actually look at them from time to time
Read a lot of reviews and decided to go for this and haven’t been disappointed at all. Was incredibly easy to set up. Yes the app is a bit clunky but for our needs of printing a couple at a time it works just fine. Could do with an update though.
Picture quality is good. We find its a bit of a blue tint and definitely darker than expected. If you can be bothered invest in one of the many free photo editing apps and tweak brightness and warmness and they end up pretty good.
Definitely not as good as decent professional prints but honestly unless they are for some serious purpose they are good quality.
25 quid for the refill package of ink in my mind is great value for108 prints. Many people have said that it’s annoying it doesn’t come with ink and paper and that’s true so please just remember…

As a keen photographer I was dubious that this could match external prints, and I wasn’t expecting it to as it’s a home product created for ease of use, at a surprisingly good price.
I was dumb founded (and still am) at the quality of the prints. The resolution/detail is excellent, colour reproduction excellent and quality of the material excellent.
Pros:
– Small machine
– Pretty easy to use
– Wifi works surprisingly well
– Print quality
Cons
– The print size is not 4″ x 6″ but slightly less (5% less or so).
What I have been doing to print is:
1) Initially download and install the Selphy printer driver. This allows one to print directly to the printer (which connects to wifi and can communicate with a wired desktop machine – which is great).
2) I have been using Capture one (similar to Lightroom) to edit the photos, and crop them to a 100x150mm ratio. I crop them to allow 5% cropping by the machine.
I also increase exposure a bit as the printer tends to print slightly darker than on screen…
