I’ve got both of the other iterations of the Echo Show and particularly like the second edition 10 inch screen version which I assume will continue to be available. The new 5.5 inch Show fits very well in a small space though – see the attached image of the Show 2 and the Show 5 side by side. Although Amazon call this version the Show 5, with previous versions being the Show and Show 2, that’s because of the screen size – there are not two missing versions of the Echo Show out there!
In terms of where best to use this size of Show, I’m using mine on my desk but it would be equally well situated on a bedside table thanks to its small footprint.
Installation was very straightforward and is done just using the Show itself – you don’t need the Amazon Alex app on a phone or tablet. My Show needed to install a software update which took around 15 minutes in total. Since then there’s been flawless operation.
In terms of functionality the new Show is pretty similar to the other versions such…

I have a couple of Echo Dot’s already in the house, and have been eyeing up the Echo Spot for a while, but could never justify the price for what I would use it for.
So, when the Echo Show 5 was advertised on pre-order, it was a no-brainer for me. Stuck in my order a couple of weeks before the release date, and it arrived as promised on the 26th.
I am absolutely amazed by the quality of not only the screen, but also the integrated speaker. My Echo Dot’s are coupled to bluetooth speakers, which works great, but there is no need at all for that on the Show 5.
Mine is set up in the kitchen where I can ask Alexa to play some music while I am cooking (complete with real-time lyrics on the screen!), give me the news headlines over breakfast, show me a recipe for something, or turn some of my smart lights on and off.
The Show 5 also gives you lots of other suggestions ofwhat you can ask Alexa to do for you – not going to give all those away here as it’s kind of fun to see what she comes up…

I love my Echo Show 5 so much, I use it to watch my prime video and also as a sound system playing my music. I did link my Ring video call to it as well. And I can just say Alexa show me front door and it will just show me live. I will definitely recommend this device it’s brilliant

This product is amazing love the way that I can watch movies on it and YouTube one disappointing thing is that the speaker is at the bottom of the device not the back meaning sound isnt as good also disappointing that it’s not portable but I brought a ggmm echo show 5 battery stand and now it makes it portable so I can take it around the house

This is my first Alexa device, the primary driver for which was to control smart home devices from my home office… It’s a great bit of kit but as another reviewer has stated, feels like it’s been released with beta firmware.
So what’s good about it? The screen is excellent: Resolution is superb and screen transitions are lag free. Video quality to other enabled devices (my phone) is excellent. The build quality is excellent. The sound, given that it’s coming from a single speaker is much, much better than I anticipated. I’d happily award four to five stars based on that.
But then comes the mark down. I have two main smart home brands that I use: TP Link Kasa and Ring. The Show 5 will link nicely to the Kasa home plugs and will display the cams with acceptable lag. It won’t activate / deactivate cameras as far as I can tell and have tried. I can live with that.
Then there’s the integration with the Ring doorbell. It will notify when someone presses the doorbell but when asked to show…
