I have been a big fan of the Echo devices ever since they launched in the UK and have upgraded every time a new device is released. I bought the Studio to replace my Echo Plus gen two and from the unboxing, I wasnโt overly impressed. It is big, which isnโt in itself an issue but it is also ugly. It might have been better with a sandstone finish but black is all you can have. The sound is undeniably better than any previous Echo device but at nearly ยฃ200 it put it up against the Sonos One and unfortunately it can not compete. At lower volumes, the Studio didnโt sound much better than my Echo Plus. At louder volumes, it was better but (in my opinion) a little harsh and uncontrolled (and yes, I have upgraded to Amazon Music HD). It does also offer surround sound and 3D audio when connected to a Fire-Stick for watching TV, but I use mine for music only so the Sonos was a winner.

Sound is personal to each of us and what I hear, someone else will hear differently and vice versa.
However, this Echo Studio speaker is absolutely fantastic in many ways. I spent the whole weekend sampling different tracks and different settings until I came up with the settings that worked for me. Which were, Bass, Treble, Mids all set to the middle (flat) and for all but 3D music I turn stereo spacial enhancement OFF.
When I get a new speaker or headphones, there are various tracks I like to play though to check performance. There are a couple of excellent public playlists on Apple Music, Spotify or Amazon Music that people have created for this purpose, try them, sometimes hearing songs you are not familiar with help to ‘hear’ the quality as you have no pre00conceived ideas of what tracks should sound like.
So, sound = 5*
I connected my TV to the Studio (and I leave it connected) via the Optical out. I currently run an Apple TV and most things go via that, the sound – Superb. That…

As soon as it was up and running it was clear the sound was much better than my previous model. This was a first generation so the improvement was very noticeable. This performs much closer to something like a Bose speaker of the same size but at half the price. Listening to radio stations is now a real pleasure and at the moment you can access a 3D playlist as part of the standard Amazon Prime music service. Itโs very impressive, in particular The Beatles โCome Togetherโ 3D mix sounds amazing, especially from such a relatively small box!
Having Zigbee built in is very useful too. There are lots of Zigbee products out there now and notably Philips Hue bulbs can work directly with the speaker without an additional hub.
As usual the integration with other Amazon family products works well. Using a voice command I can view my Blink cameras through the TV using and Amazon Fire stick. Everything is intuitive and easy to set up.
It looks like the launch has been a huge success as there is…

Well unfortunately it has to be said Iโm mystified why thereโs so many positive reviews. Let me explain. I already have an echo dot for all the usual Alexa features (which all work fine) so the reason for this purchase was so that I could use this to connect to my tv for that so called studio sound. You have to put the echo on volume 10 so that the tv remote can gain enough volume to listen to? I reverted back to the TVs built in speakers for better sound. When using Bluetooth to stream music from my phone the sound quality is mediocre, forget volumes 1-5 you just wonโt hear much. The good news is if you intend to pay for a monthly music subscription then the sound quality is very good and the 3D and HD music is excellent for a single speaker. I hope this review will help some people decide if itโs worth it. Be weary of the Bluetooth connectivity itโs not good!

I bought 2 of these speakers and configured them as a stereo pair in one room. Having listened to them over the weekend I am returning them as the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. Even using Amazon Music HD tracks I found the sound reproduction poor with heavy bass and a muffled overall sound. I could also not detect any “3D” effect on relevant tracks. Tried tweaking the tone controls to no avail and with “spatial” stereo switch on and off.
In the scheme of all things audio, ยฃ190 for a speaker is not that much but it’s too much for the sound quality offered here….

had high hopes of this speaker, but the bass is too pronounced even with adjustments in the Alexa app, also once paired to bluetooth whenever you play music it defaults to the studio which is not what you always need. Trying to play bbc radio is a nightmare. returned very disappointed.
