when mine arrived it was absent a stand,so i can prop it up against something in the hope it doesn’t fall over and lose signal or play about with it lying flat on it’s back, had asked in seller feedback comments but seems to be ignored , hence 3 stars, other than that when i can get it to sit up i get a better signal than my other router gets, just a pain with the balancing act,,if you have a stand please send one out

Having ditched my sky fibre, which gave me a solid 66Mbps, I tested several cheap Cat 4 routers, including a TP-Link and Huawei Cat 4. I was able to position these near windows all over the house, but at best I hit 40mbps. But in generalm these speeds were no better than what i’d achieve on my old iphone 8.
This told me that any small benefit I attained via superior positioning, i.e. high up the top of various windows (connected via cable) with both Huawei and TP-link Cat 4 routers, was then lost as it were transmitted via the built in WiFI antennas back to my room where I’d have my laptop and iPhone. So the at best 5Mbps to 10Mbps gained with a Cat 4 stuck high to the window in various rooms was lost without using the charging cable itself. In fact it was only thanks to my own very long microusb cable that this positioning was even possible, and this was lost when sent via the Wifi with only 2.4Ghz available.
I found this refurbished Huawei B535 model for just ยฃ57, when as of today…

Already familiar with using a 4G Router at home, I needed to replace my old TP Link with a new machine as it was faltering with regards to phone calls. I settled on this Huawei since itโs dual-band, and it has phone call capabilities.
Everything was going so well after the initial set up, but I couldnโt get the telephone side of things to work. It would always go straight to voicemail. After some to-and-fro-ing with tech support via email, it seems that this model/ firmware version of the router wasnโt compatible with my Smarty SIM when it comes to VoLTE calls.
Tech support was very helpful and after much troubleshooting, they sent me a newer version of this router, and after setting it up, my Smarty SIM works flawlessly with itโฆnot only the internet, but I can now make and receive calls with the replacement router now. Also, my HP All-in-One printer is happy too. Old router refused to communicate with it, even though it had assigned an IP address etc.
WIth regards to my replacement…

Bought the product as I had the previous generation of the same router and had no issues with it.
Similarly, I had no issues setting up this router to use with an external antenna. I think a lot of the issues people have are not with the products such as this router or the antenna but with their alignment with the cell masts.
Using cellmapper has enabled me to find the correct cell mast to direct the antenna at and maintain a perfect signal. The ai life app is great for updating the devices firmware and is very simple to use.

I was initially baffled by the setup screen on my laptop as it was in a foreign language, and I could not find out how to change it to English. It took half an hour with Google translate to sort this problem. Then I found that I had to enter the internet settings for my sim card (Lebara) manually, so not quite plug-and-play. Once I had selected the right band setting, I got a fantastic download speed, at least 50% better than the TP-Link TL-MR6400 that it replaced. Very pleased. I am scrapping my FTTC broadband as a result.
