Mike Sheriff –
Very easy to set up. Excellent picture and sound quality. Very good value for money. Having live TV and all the fire TV apps all on one machine is so good. Switching between everything is easy with the remote and easier using voice control for most of the functions is superb! Using Alexa with the voice option on the remote is an added bonus. Cannot fault it or recommend it higher enough!

Great sound, picture quality and the fire tv software is smooth and easy to use. The design looks great in my room and also looks very modern – I cannot find a fault with this purchase.

We spent some time looking at this in a shop, alongside others of a similar price. We looked at all three sizes, but the 49″ was most obvious. Even without comparing something felt off about the colours, lacking ‘pop’ and when compared you could see really easily. Like the screen had been left in the sun slightly too long, and the colours had faded.
Perhaps inappropriate to review without buying -but we came within moments of buying before looking at it (In Currys), and I wanted to be able to help anyone else considering buying- go and look!
Mr. P. Sleigh –
For a 49″ 4K HDR TV at £299, this is amazing value. If you want the best value 4k tv around, this is probably it.
Is it perfect? – No but it will probably be good enough as a main tv for many homes and a cracking 2nd/bedroom/office tv, even for those with a premium brand main tv like me.
I already have 2 top draw 55″ 4k tvs, the Panasonic CX802 (arguably the best tv from 2015) and the LG OLED E6 (arguably the best tv from 2016) but wanted a 3rd tv for my office, as my daughter has now got my older HD tv in her bedroom.
In addition to the JVC Fire TV Edition, I considered the (50″) Hisense B7500 (£349), the Phillips 7 and 8 series (c. £500) and the Panasonic GX 800 (C. £600). I have no doubt that the Panny and Philips have a superior picture but they both have poor SMART functionality and Philips tvs have an inherent issue with washed out HDR. The Hisense is also pretty basic in its SMART functionality and unlikely to be much better in terms of picture quality, as well as reported lip…

Don’t let the odd negative review put you off! Costing a bargain £298 at the time of purchase, this 49 inch 4K HDR entertainment thriller took me under 15 minutes to have it out of the box, connected to the internet, and working as advertised. My tech-fussy eyes are thoroughly impressed with the higher than expected screen quality, even at wide IPS-like angles. Colours, including those very important black levels, look totally fabulous, so the (non-buying!) reviewer who wrote that the colours look washed out needs a prompt visit to Specsavers. He’s simply wrong! I am enjoying the gorgeous screen as it came, but you can tweak the picture to your personal liking. The Dolby sound quality and volume levels are surprisingly good too, and most people will probably be happy. If like me you prefer a cinema-like performance from your TV audio, then you may prefer to add something such as the cheap but crazy-powerful Logitech Z-906, which delivers a thunderous deep bass that can blow out…
