If you’re using a Mac, especially one of the newer M1 based machines, this is a no brainier. I went through 5 different monitors from BenQ, Samsung and Asus – then don’t waste time like me and just get the LG. It’s the closest to an Apple screen and has amazing picture sharpness, decent inbuilt audio and uniformity of backlight across the panel. I can’t recommend highly enough and the beauty of the USB C connector doing video and audio is a godsend. I should add I’m not using HDR and use the monitor for 4K video editing.

LG UHD 27UN83A – this is the model number of my device.
Does not actually have a gaming feature with 144hz refresh rate. The product description is FALSE. The panel natively supports 4k at 60hz. The colors are good, there is no noticeable ips glow. Even with an outside power supply, it gets uncomfortably warm at the bottom, which may reduce lifespan. The stand is good and supports tilt and height adjustments, but no swivel. Disappointed with the false description.
Edit: I have now used it for a couple of days, and I have noticed some flaws. There is horrible ghosting on this monitor. The image I have included is a picture I took with my phone, there is clear, significant image retention in the middle of the shot. With this I conclude it is a substandard quality panel. Its very disappointing, and I can only recommend other monitors at this price range, as there are much better options available. I will be looking to return this.

The main reason I bought this monitor is for USB C connectivity. That’s the part that doesn’t seem to work consistently. I am using with a 2020 16″ macbook pro. Power isn’t always delivered to the laptop, causing the laptop to randomly power down. The screen doesn’t ‘wake’ when the laptop is plugged in. The ‘hub’ feature seems OK for webcam but didn’t work for connecting my phone. All in all not really what I felt was described in the product description.

I have connected this monitor to my Mac Mini M1 and after moving from an iMac with 4K screen I didn’t expect a screen to even come close to that quality. Whilst the Mac screen is sublime and retina is IMO the best out there this LG screen is crisp and a pleasure to view and for me I haven’t been at all disappointed with the change which says a lot. For a budget price it has a premium feel and the included stand is brilliant, being able to move up and down and tilt screen and twist in any direction is great. If you are thinking of having this screen as a second screen for you Mac computer or looking to switch you won’t be disappointed it’s fantastic screen and I am a happy customer

– Terrible color/temperature uniformity : Left side of the monitor has magenta tint and right side has yellow/greenish tint and it’s really really noticeable when looking at something white (browser) or any bright image in the middle area. When moving a window left to right you have to check white balance of your photo, it’s ridiculous. Ok it’s not defining as professional monitor but this problem should be considered if you feel very uncomfortable even read something on your browser. When I searched the web for this, I saw that too many people have encountered this kind of general IPS monitor problem (not specifically for this monitor). As I learned, the problem of color uniformity is within the manufacturer’s tolerance so if you are lucky you will find monitor which has good color uniformity. I decided to buy this monitor after reading customer reviews of new model (27UN83A) and predecessor (27UL850). Either users do not notice the problem or I am unlucky.

UPDATE 15/05/21
I lowered my original rating from 4 to 2 stars due to the non-reliable USB-c functionality:
I had to exchange the 1st monitor because the USB-c was not working at all. The 2nd unit worked fine for about 4 months (just occasional glitches), but no, the USB-c stopped working entirely (I connected different devices: no charging, no video signal, nothing).
Apparently LG has some serious issues with the USB-c functionality in this model:
I strongly discourage anyone to buy this monitor if you are planning on using the USB-c port!
ORIGINAL REVIEW JANUARY’21
I can absolutely vouch for many positive things this monitor has:
– excellent picture quality
– nice design
– various connection options
– VESA mount
– antiglare-coating
– nice bundle including an USB-c to USB-c cable and all in all excellent value for money
The reason why I am only giving 4 Stars is the USB-c connectivity, as LG seems to have some quality issues there:
The first monitor I received apparently had a defective USB-c…
