Motorola One Zoom: A Detailed Review
Should you buy Motorola One Zoom? Motorola is a company that has been around for over 100 years, and they are known for creating quality products. This is one of their newest products, but does it live up to the Motorola standard? In this article, we will answer that question by reviewing some key features of the phone and its price tag.
Motorola One Zoom Intro:
Motorola launched the Motorola One Zoom in September 2019. It has a big, bright 6.4-inch screen, full HD+ resolution (2,340 x 1,080), a boxy design, and an in-screen fingerprint scanner for unlocking the phone. Motorola gave the One Zoom a massive 4,000mAh battery that can support 15W rapid charging.
A 48MP camera sensor from Samsung sits under the main lens. Focus is solid at 3x zoom settings, and ships the device with near-stock Android 9 Pie software.
Why One Zoom?
There aren’t many phones in the $300 to $500 price range. The majority of today’s gadgets are expensive flagships costing more than $1,000 or inexpensive entry-level phones with retail points under $200. This leaves the mid-range market barren and confused. The Samsung Galaxy A70/A80, Google Pixel 3a XL, and Nokia 7.2 serve as examples of this sector.
Motorola is here to demonstrate that you don’t need to spend $1,000 for a great camera, fast charging, and a phone with a large bright screen. For detailed features reviews of this, the under-budget smartphone scrolls down to the next.

Purchased to replace a Nokia 7.1 that broke after just 6 months of usage (many others having issues too, ugh!). The Motorola One Zoom is, at first glance, very nice indeed. The phone is a little larger than an LG G3, which for many years was my favourite smartphone, and the grey colour is actually a lovely looking blue which when combined with the light up Motorola logo looks smart.
The phone feels good in the hand and functions swiftly without pause. I can report that the Alexa functionality is working as intended (I’m on Three).
The camera is nice, the zoom is a welcome addition and can allegedly zoom further than the new iPhone 11 Pro, though you do notice the Image Stabilisation as it slows down what you’re seeing (if you’ve ever used a DSLR camera’s rear screen for taking pictures you’ll understand this). The photo quality ranges drastically as the cameras in the phone are tuned differently depending on what zoom level you’re using. It’s nowhere near as good as some others and…

I bought this camera after a lot of deliberation, it was a choice of an Samsung 9 or 10, iPhone 7 or 8 or Huawei p20 (Leica camera) or Motorola One Zoom.
Went and had demonstrations in the phone shops and John Lewis (no one else had the Motorola) read comparisons and went on YouTube. I also read all the reviews on Amazon.
I wanted to have a good camera, storage and screen size. The Motorola seem to have everything I wanted without costing the earth.
So so far the phone has been easy to use, and had no problems transferring across from my iPhone 6. I haven’t tried Alexa yet so cant say if it is any good.

I’ve read one or two reviews about Alexa hands free rejecting cards in the phone. I received my new phone 2 days ago. This is my second Motorola and surpasses all my expectations for a phone. Easy set up and only took about 15 minutes to transfer all my data/apps etc from my old phone. Setting up Alexa was fine but I then decided to disable the amazon apps, including Alexa until I mastered the phone better. Absolutely no problems. No bloat, clean install. Worth a look if your undecided for a new phone. Delivery was quick and came a day early.
UPDATE : phone was more or less the same set-up as my previous Motorola. No problems. Took longer to get to grips with Android 9. However getting there. I re-activated Alexa and other amazon apps. Absolutely no problems with that. Inserted a branded 128GB sd card. No glitches with that. Everything is working as it should.

Alexa hands free won’t enable. Complains that SIM is not from a supported country. I have a UK SIM. Calls & SMS work fine. Both Amazon and Motorola support have been no help !!!
Update : Have now tried O2 and Three SIM, still won’t enable
Further Update. After lots of emails back and forth with Motorola Tech support finally seem to have Alexa working. Following are edited highlights we went through :
1. First of all, go to Settings > System > Advanced > System updates and check to see if an update is available. There is a launch patch (Build PPH29.59-32 – Security patch level: 1 August 2019) being rolled out in stages so if it is not available for download yet, it should be soon. I had later version !
2. – Locate the Moto Voice for Alexa app in the app tray. Tap and hold on it until an App Info button appears
– Tap on the App Info button and then select Storage > Clear Storage > OK
3. Open the Moto Voice for Alexa app and try to set it up.
4. Tap and hold Moto Voice for Alexa app, and…

Well as a camera nut (I have still got five high emd plus ‘white’ lens I have alway looked for the most usfull camera phone.
I still have a couple of excellent snappers in the way of Nokia the Microsoft 950xl and a Sony Experia, so why change?
The Motorola Zoom has everything, seperate zoom and wide angle lenses two high pixel count (48) mains then software modified for a max of 12M. Auto software is ok, but manual ite all up to you, great.
On top of this is a great performing smart phone, Why spend double for a so called high end NAME. Awesome.
