Works really well – delighted with it. I wanted a switch with management capabilites so I can set up VLANs, and this did exactly what I wanted. The 8 ports are a useful number for me. It’s surprisingly heavy for such a small device, this being due to the sturdy metal case. It feels only slightly warm to the touch (i.e. runs quite cool) and can be mounted flat on a desk or, by using the supplied screws as hooks, wall-mounted. The switch connects at the correct 1 Gbps rate to my router, which my previous switch refused to do. The cable test feature is handy and I am now replacing what it has identified as a dodgy cable. The ability to manage it from a browser using its web-based interface on any computer is handy, so I haven’t even bothered yet installing the computer client software provided with it. Having said that, the web interface is a little “clunky” so I may give the client software a try at some point. A few very minor “cons”: it doesn’t support HTTPS (secure) access to the…

NETGEAR GS105UK 5-PORT GIGABIT UNMANAGED ETHERNET SWITCH. (NOTE:- Please be aware that multiple different types/models of these Netgear switches are all foolishly grouped together under one single product review. Unless the review CLEARLY states the SPECIFIC model, you could be reading a review for a completely different model to the one you’re looking to purchase)!!!

ADDITIONALLY – Before I mention anything else, IF you do purchase the “GS105UK Unmanaged” – You MAY NEED to connect your router to PORT 5. (There’s been conflicting info online regarding this issue for YEARS. Worse still, there’s multiple versions of the GS105 as it’s been in continuous production for years, in different variations, & released in countless nations. Some versions/variants ARE different to others!! (My last Netgear GS105 also inexplicably required the router in port 5 for example). Netgear’s aging installation diagram shows the modem/router connected to a centre port. Many sources say it just doesn’t…

Very solid, well made switch, in heavy, substantial metal case. Very convenient design with ports to the front right hand side and activity LEDs to the left. Supplied with a solid metal bracket for mounting in almost every imaginable position. Supplied with two mains cables – one UK and one EU plug. Power supply built-in, so no awkward separate power module. The solid metal case makes the installation less likely to move around with the pull of the cables. Plastic boxes keep moving around.

I have four 4Tb video servers supplying HD TV throughout my house, plus an assortment of Android TV boxes, Ethernet printers, laptops and PCs. This switch works flawlessly even when multiple servers are feeding several TVs with HDTV. I can simultaneously transfer between servers at speeds approaching 100Mb/s – about 20% faster than my previous configuration of a D-Link switch which simply expanded my router Ethernet ports. My new configuration has ALL my wired connections going to the Netgear…
