Switches are a hard one to review. They take ‘years’ to really know how good they are. Over the last 4-5 years I’ve had 6/7 of these switches in multiple configurations.
If they work out of the box, then you’re probably onto a winner. A lot of reviews have reemed Netgear for out of box failures, only had 1 myself, and it was a faulty power supply rather than the switch (12V/2A), so was able to replace easily.
The main thing to remember is that these don’t make your home internet run any faster, in most of the world you’ll be lucky to get over 100Mbps at home, so having a gbps switch wont change that.
I’m a bit old fashioned in the way that I like a physical cable, nowadays, everything is wireless, from TVs to Echos. And that does take it’s toll on your wireless bandwidth. Most ISP routers will be lucky if they’re able to support over 30-40 wireless devices, and any heavy data rate can really bottom that out. So if you’re trying to stream 4K UHD HRD netflix at 20ish Mbps, you want to…

I purchased this unmanaged network switch for use with an Eero Pro installation where I needed expand the number of ethernet ports available. The unit is truly Plug-In-And-Play, you plug in your network cable (Iโ€™d recommend using a quality ethernet cable) into any of the available ports, plug in the included power adaptor and its ready to go instantly with no need to setup anything, you can start plugging in everything else and theyโ€™ll have network access straight away. Using it for a few weeks Iโ€™ve not had any network connectivity issues or speed differences from my devices and the Eero system recognises everything plugged into it. The unit itself is ruggedly built with a metal construction and is fan-less so it doesnโ€™t make any noise.

Overall, if you require a quality unmanaged network switch to expand the number of ethernet ports available, this fits the bill perfectly. Thank you for reading my review, if you found it helpful feel free to let me know below.

How exciting is this! Recently upgraded to Sky Q and the new router that was sent out only had 2 LAN connections compared to my old router that had 4! Most stuff in my house is connected Via WiFi only problem with this is, devices like PS4 and smart TVs when streaming games, movie’s etc does effect the WiFi bandwidth.

So coming across this little gem has solved a lot of issues and managed to LAN most devices such as my PS4, TV, Sky Q, Hive Hub, Android box etc – this guarantees a stable connection for the “more demanding” data hungry devices.

Not very good! I never thought until today. My Windows 10 PC was turning it self on all the time and I thought it was problems with Windows itself after looking up. As loads of people have been having problems on their computers turning it self on. Anyway we have noticed the Network as been behaving badly and the internet would work super slow. Sky keeps playing up and disconnecting, my Plex server would not work properly, Wi-FI would be super slow and disconnect all the time. Anyway since my brother is a IT technician. Today we have been trying to find out what was the problem. It turned out to be this switch! After disconnecting it. Everything started to work fine and super fast. Even my Windows 10 PC doesnโ€™t turn it self on anymore. So Iโ€™m returning this and getting a TP-link one. So problem solved after spending hours trying to work out what was causing everything to play up! By unplugging everything and setting Sky back to factory and then plugging one device back in as a…

Netgear is a name you can trust and have been at the top of their field for some time. Their products generally have a slightly higher price point than the some of the Chinese competition but are worth the money.

This switch for example is extremely well made and if anything like the other switches I have will last for a very long time. It is ideal for your average household but perhaps not suitable for businesses as the switch is un-managed i.e. no control over the traffic passing through it. It uses auto-detecting technology so that devices capable of higher speeds can transfer data faster.

Put simply plug it in, plug in you your devices and you’re away – no technical knowledge required!

Definitely worth considering at this price if you are currently running devices such as tv, playstation etc wirelessly. As wonderful as wifi is (and is getting better) you will always get a far better and solid connection via hard-wired.

Get a switch and this one is ideal.

308 is a cheaper version of Netgear 108 professional switch. Functionally they are the same, but 308 one uses cheaper components, thus having lower reliability and life expectancy. You will not see these disadvantages at home, but in a large system with hundreds of such devices the costs of repair will shift the favour towards 108.
The device is low power, has metal case, runs cold and comes from a company known to not cause fire or injury hazards. It’s quite fast on Gigabit networks, allows streaming video.
