    Review for an EX800 / X65.

The WPS setup is very simple, so getting up and running is a nice experience. From the go, the extender seems to do a great job of greatly extending the WIFI, although it is nothing like the ‘same speed due to fastlane technology’.

Unfortunately, the experience goes downhill very fast. Despite the indicator lights showing ‘the best connection’, 2.4/5ghz connections etc, the extender frequently disconnects, to the point that the best improvement I can make to my wifi is to turn it off.

I have tried all workarounds in the support articles and also called support. The usual firmware upgrade, changing channels on the router, repositioning etc. but with no noticeable difference.

Ultimately, the extender makes any Wi-Fi issues far worse as half the time it will now not work route internet traffic at all, not just the previous reduced speeds without it.

Lastly, my reason for a 1 star review:
Not only does the extender fail due to the disconnecting issues but as an…

See update at end of review.

This is a review of the NETGEAR EX8000-100EUS AC3000 Mbps Nighthawk Mesh X6S Tri-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender. I bought it to improve the WiFi signal in the house and to provide coverage to the bottom of the garden. It was easy enough to set-up but some might find it a bit too involved. When it worked it was brilliant and produced a stonking signal all the way down the garden. The problem was that some devices (Apple) would report a strong WiFi signal but would not have an Internet connection, despite the Netgear box being sited in an area with a very good signal from my router Turning the Netgear box off and on would fix it. I could see this was going to cause too much pain for the non-technical member of the family and, besides, this is not a cheap bit of kit so I expected more from it in terms of reliability. Reluctantly sent it back for a refund.

Review updated after re-purchasing the same product in August/September 2019.

    The Bad
โ€ข Did not improve wifi at all
โ€ข Was the most “complex” setups of a mesh wifi/extender that I’ve encountered
โ€ข Took unnecessary desk space, and a dent in the wallet and still couldn’t perform as advertised- granted the official response for why the unit is so rubbish will be stated as “…the quality of your internet boost is dependant on X, Y and Z”, but even for those of us that are half-sensible and fully understand how these things work, it was unnecessarily difficult to setup than the plug-and-play netgear wall adapters (which is also a mesh extender at almost half the cost)
โ€ข Too expensive, especially given that it did not improve wifi at all
โ€ข “Tech support” was condescending responding back with half-baked answers that didn’t help, such as “try turning the computer off and on again”

    The Good
โ€ข Design is pleasing, but this means nothing to me if the product does not do what it’s advertised for!

    Summary
โ€ข As usual, Amazon is understanding and are a credit to those of us who use…
