Mrs. Hatter –
I gave this to my nephew for his 16th birthday as he’s taking his photography and video editing more seriously. It’s such a brilliant little camera and perfect for a beginner as it’s hard to take a bad picture using the very good pre-sets and creative modes and the pictures are so brilliantly detailed and rich. It’s very easy to then start learning how to use the manual modes to achieve similar results and a really good camera for progression. Of all the DSLR’s I’ve used I think Nikon’s kit lenses are some of the best and these are more than adequate enough to start with before investing in more expensive lenses as you progress. The anti-shake works really well, especially for lessening blur on longer range shots if not using a tripod, the menus are all very easy to navigate and the video recording is brilliant too. It’s a nice compact, lightweight camera that isn’t too bulky and very comfortable to hold and shoot with. Brilliant camera and would definitely recommend as a great…

This is great little dslr. Picture quality is superb. The handling and build quality are very good and the autofocus performs well. The item arrived in original packaging which still looked very good despite bei g a used item. The camera showed no signs of wear and was obviously looked after.

I decided it was time to upgrade from my ancient D60 to a newer camera. After much research, this one was my choice.
What I wanted?
I am a member of a local camera club. I love taking photos but, lack the time to improve my skills. I needed a camera that would give me the scope to improve my skills. This one goes one better and with it’s guide mode, helps me to learn the right choices to make when deciding on manual settings. I wanted a camera with a more extensive range of manual settings than my D60. I wanted a camera that would take great pictures. I wanted a camera that would perform well in all sorts of conditions and at taking different types of photos. I wanted Live View. For occasional use, I wanted the ability to record HD video. I wanted a camera that I could just stick on auto and that would still take great pictures, if I couldn’t be bothered or didn’t have the time to think about settings.
What I didn’t want?
I didn’t need a really high resolution as I would rarely want to…

I bought this camera three years ago, after being a satisfied owner of a Nikon D40, and I’m thoroughly happy with it.
It looks and feels sturdy and well built, better than a Canon, and all buttons are in the right place, especially the very convenient switch for LiveView/Movie; the grip is excellent, and the camera is light and compact enough to be carried around all day, unlike some more expensive and “advanced” cameras.
As this is a device meant for beginners, it has a “Guide” mode, which basically shows you the most important settings of the camera, those you are most likely to need; this saves you from having to browse through the somewhat daunting deluge of settings and menus these modern DSLRs have.
This camera includes some editing tools for post-processing, such as the classic filters, distortion correction, fish-eye effect, crop, color balance, red-eye correction etc.; you can have good fun trying them all, and it saves time on editing your pics on the computer.
