I purchased this adapter to connect my laptop which does not have a RJ45 port to my internet router via a RJ45 Cat5e cable to overcome the poor connection issues which I was experiencing when using a wireless conection. Set up was truly plug-and-play, all I needed to do was to plug the adaptor and the cable in. No need to configure a new ethernet newtwork connection since my wireless connection was configured already. I am using Windows 10. Once the ethernet (cable) connection is established it becomes the default connection to access the internet, even if the wireless connection is still available. Although my only reason to purchase this adapter was to overcome the stability issues of my wireless connection, as an added benefit my internet browising appears to be considerably faster over the new ethernet connection. Product appears to be of good quality and it does what it says on the tin. Top marks.

Handy adapter for connecting an Ethernet cable to the USB3 port of my laptop (MacBook Pro, but it works with Windows laptops as well). Many new computers come without a built in Ethernet socket, and sometimes you need a wired connection, if WiFi isn’t working or is too slow, or when travelling, or in some student accommodation etc. There appeared to be no loss of speed through the adapter – the only issue I had was that I had to connect the other end of the Ethernet cable directly to the router (not via a switch) – I’m sure there is a way round this but I had enough sockets for it not to be a problem.

I plugged it into a spare USB port on my laptop and it simply worked, straight out of the box, no fuss, no configuration, totally painless, just connect it to the local switch (or router) with an Ethernet cable in it and away it goes, network attached, job done.

The laptop in question uses the Ubuntu (Linux) operating system, so I can’t actually say how the device would fare on a Windows or Mac OSX computer, but given that it is specified for those operating systems (and doesn’t mention Linux) I would be surprised if it didn’t work as well on those too.

My uni Wi-Fi connection gets fairly patchy at times, and my laptop doesn’t have a dedicated Ethernet port, so this device is an absolute Godsend. I probably could have made do with a USB 2.0 one but using this one means I can squeeze the most out of the network I’m on. I also use my laptop to broadcast the Ethernet connection on its own Wi-Fi network, and this device handles the added traffic with no issues whatsoever. It’s permanently on my desk, but it’s obviously small enough to throw in a bag with an Ethernet cable if I want to go somewhere else with a wired outlet, like the library.

I was shocked to find that my new Macbook Pro did not have an Ethernet port! Oh my gosh, how was I going to copy stuff from my old iMac to the new machine, surely not over Wifi, that would take ages. Luckily I found this adapter and the problem was resolved. I just plugged one end into a USB 3 port on the Macbook, actually I used my

Anker® 60W 7-Port USB 3.0 Data Hub with 3 PowerIQ Charging Ports for iPhone, iPad, Samsung, Motorola, HTC, and More

     – then a good old ethernet cable plugged into the adapter and the connection to my iMac was complete. I use this sometimes to connect to a Homeplug Network when the Wifi is misbehaving and for copying files over quickly.

Edit: I recently thought this device had stopped working as I was unable to connect my iMac to the Mac Laptop, I tried many network settings and jiggery pokery and only a reboot of the laptop fixed the problem. I did some research and it seems that Ethernet is not Plug and Play, not the fault of the Network…

Had several products across the Rankie range (mainly cables) and they’ve always surpassed expectations so when I needed a RJ45 to USB adapter for the ASUS Chromebit, I thought I’d give this a go.

Plugged it into my XPS13 first of all to test it, perfect results. Thought I’d try an ancient Dell laptop, passed again with flying colours and as you’ve probably guessed, it’s working flawlessly with the Chromebit running DisplayMonkey on the TV.

    Just ordered the other 8 I need…….

I bought this initially to get back online after the Airport card in my late 2013 MacBook Pro stopped working. The adapter arrived next day thanks to my Prime membership and worked straight out of the packet. No drivers to install or settings to change. Just plug into a free USB port, plug in an Ethernet cable, and off you go. The adapter seems well made and is small enough to slip into a laptop bag when not in use. I will probably keep using it even after replacing the faulty card as a wired connection is always more stable than a wireless one. Highly recommended.

I bought this as I was shocked to find my current laptop didn’t have an Ethernet port when I needed it (everything is WiFi now and you don’t realise your are missing the connection until you need it).
The network adapter is easy to install…. I just plugged it in to a USB port and it automatically installs with no issues (all of my USB ports on the laptop are USB 3 but I think it’s backward compatible if you only have USB 2).
I’m using Windows 10 and have had no problems with using it.
I chose the USB 3 version over a USB C type as I use the USB C port to connect to one of my external monitors and I should be able to use on a wider range of devices if I ever need to.
