  1. Starry night

I generally liked this little palm sander from the Ryobi One+ range – it’s effective and easy to use. The hook and loop attachment surface for sanding pads keeps these in place well. The power button is a little stiff, and you do feel quite a bit of vibration in your hand and arm when using this. It works well, gets in to corners reasonably, and a battery charge lasts ages. The thing I really don’t like about this is that it seems to be really hard to detach a battery when it needs recharging.

We mostly own the 5.0Ah batteries, for the longer run time these give, and only own OEM Ryobi batteries, but for some reason with this sander they’re an absolute nightmare to get back off – awkward to get both sides to unclip properly. We have several Ryobi One+ system tools (hedge cutter, extendable hedge cutter, rectangular sander, drills, pole pruner, grass trimmer, lawn mower, inflator, USB charger, torches, hand vac), and don’t have any problems with other tools. In contrast, a 2.5Ah…

The media could not be loaded.

ย I was hesitant about this purchase because of people saying the velcro connection is no good (I already love the one+ system). I also bought additional sandpaper because some reviews said there wasn’t any.
This review is to say that the sander is great, 6 sheets of sandpaper supplied (as per pictures) and the velcro system (at least when new) is excellent.
I have pieces where the face to be sanded is recessed and the sander face is too big to fit in the recess, so velcroed a piece of sandpaper onto a block of wood velcroed to the sander; result is excellent and no slippage of velcro anywhere. This little sander is going to save me so much time!
I’ve also used it to sand a door for painting, and a wall after filling holes, more in hope (that I wouldn’t need to drag out a corded sander) than expectation, and it was excellent in both cases.

Was looking for a nice small handheld battery operated sander and reviewed many before making final decision, the main factor was that I already have a few Ryobi tools and am extremely pleased with them and their performance. Having the tools being able to use the same battery was a massive bonus, already had a spare battery so no need to purchase another. I did read that some users had issues loading and unloading the battery, yes it is a little tight but fits perfect, I have no issues in that area…the sander is extremely easy to use, with a push of a button it is on or off, the sanddisks are easy to put on and take off, the sander fits snuggly in my hand and has been doing a great job..slowly but surely all my power tools will be Ryobi which pleases my much. Great product at a reasonable price and I am loving it!

You will see clearly that the avert and photograph show that the sander comes with six sanding pads, this is not the case and the advert obviously misleads the buyer thinking pads are supplied with the sander. not a big issue but effects its value for money. not good Ryobi and Amazon should take note

Great item, i have trouble with grip so once this is flat i can move around with ease and it doesnt weigh alot. Ive been using it for doing up my old pine funiture BUT ive had great difficulty in getting the sanding sheets, i only use the p60 grit as i need a good key for the paint, you can only purchase a multi pack of assorted sheets at ยฃ10 odd a pack. I cant find any none ryobi sheets to fit as the holes are all in the wrong place making the device clog up with dust and overheat

There is only one reason you would buy this over any other similar item and that’s the One+ battery system which, may not be the trendiest or have the most professional box tick, but it is two things. Massive in scope of tools and surprisingly good for the money.

Bottom line is that you are looking at this because you are in the One+ system and already have the batteries.

So, as in other more recent Ryobi offerings this is a well made cordless tool. I have some of their stuff going back 12 years now, all of which have been well battered during my house renovation. They are all still going strong despite the fact that the later tools are far better made. In a nutshell I know from personal experience that unless you are unlucky, this tool will last a long time and there’s little to be gained buying more expensive tools from the likes of Makita. Yes, ultimately they may be a little higher quality, but Ryobi will still work in ten years time and the battery pack still fit unlike many…

This sander is fine for most DIY occasional use, but I don`t think a professional would rate too highly.
I`m happy enough with it as I use it for light sanding.
One big minus point, and it`s been mentioned by others on here, the battery is so difficult to remove from the body. which I don`t understand. I have other Ryobi ONE+ tools and they are so easy to replace and swap batteries. That`s the reason I went for this model in the first place. I had to use a screwdriver to ease the battery off.
    That is not good.
