The drive seems to perform as expected. However, having had read reports of fake drives I decided to check with Samsung magician. The drive is not detectable by the software and the firmware shows as ‘0’. I can see that the drive had previously been opened and I am concerned about the authenticity of this product. I have contacted Samsung for advice.

Hi,
Bought this in prep for a PS5 to bring my PS4 library to it.
But first – Connected this up to my PS4 (Standard and a Pro) and it was so easy to use…just a few clicks on the PS4 menus and it was ready to use and was able to transfer the games from the internal to this drive.
The transfer speed is held up by the PS4 itself so I won’t claim it was fast or slow…it was ok and better than a HDD but I didn’t really time it.
The main thing I would like to highlight is speed of loading up a game.
1) Battlefield V on internal took 50 seconds and with it on the SSD it took 32 seconds (not too bad)
2) Just cause on internal took 30 seconds and with it on the SSD it took 24 seconds (not really mind blowing)
So hopefully if my PS5 turns up I will update this review to give an update on how this SSD works on it.
But so far thumbs up.

DO NOT USE THIS FOR MUSIC PRODUCTION.
I use the NI komplete Ultimate instrument library, and whenever this things heats up during use it throttles and then completely glitches out. Not only that, but for me it’s bricked. Use another SSD instead. Don’t let the price fool you.

(Im not sure why the review system is asking me to review things like “warmth” and “thickness”. Perhaps this listing has been repurposed to farm reviews from a blanket).
The Samsung T7 is the first SSD I’ve bought for external use (I’ve used internal ones for many years).
I got this one to install PS4 games on PS5 because storage is limited and an HDD is slow.
PS5 has 10Gb USB ports (all except the type-A on the front which is for charging and is USB2) so a good, fast SSD is worth while.
My benchmark game for load times is The Outer Worlds; not because it’s a great game, but because the load times made it unplayable on PS4.
On PS4, load times for this game averaged about 50-60 seconds. On this external drive , on PS5 they averaged about 20 seconds.
Working out a rough write speed by copying Destiny 2 from PS5 internal to this T7 (1TB) I calculated a write speed of 360MB/s.
This is much lower than the advertised speed, but it’s quite likely due to quirks of the PS5 and the files being…

I own a lot of hard drives for video storage, they range from very slow 1TB external hard drives to 12TB NAS archives.
Among these drives are a couple of Samsung T5 drives… When they came out, it was an instant buy, immense SSD speed compared to HDD. Who would have thought only a few years later Samsung would come out with the T7! A nVME SSD drive boasting 2x’s the speed of the older T5.
If you’re running on thunderbolt 3 or USB-C you’ll notice this difference straight away, hitting over 1,000mbps read and write speeds, transferring huge files in the blink of an eye. A must have for anyone working with large files. If you’re still using USB3 you won’t notice any difference over the older T5, but the prices on Amazon still make the T7 worth it as they’re so similar in price, and you’ll be future-proofed!

Very disappointed to find that this T7 ssd was not recognised by Mac using the supplied USB-C cable but was recognised by the USB-A. Using the same USB-C a Samsung T5 and a Sandinista Extreme ssd were recognised so not the cable. Samsung software installed and made no difference, T7 just not recognised using USB-C ports, item returned for refund as Iโm not chancing a replacement that might have same problem. Disappointed that Samsung website didnโt offer any solution.

I bought this based on its advertised speeds, in excess of 1000MB/s read and write. Sadly, after a couple of days I was getting less than 50 MB/s write and 800 MB/s read. I reformatted and used a different file format but the issue didn’t improve. I plugged into another machine and reformatted again, no better. On contacting Samsung, they passed me to a third party support but they were extremely poor, and spent more time re-requesting information I had already sent, then not returning emails. In the end I have not been able to resolve the terrible write speed (slower than my very slow iMac internal HDD) so have returned the drive to Amazon, and will purchase an SSD from another supplier. Disappointing.
