Firstly, this is a genuine buyer review, paid for out of my own hard earned cash.

My previous phone was a Mate 20 Pro which even by today’s standards is a fantastic handset, one which has many features that the Xperia 5 ii does not.

After spending weeks looking at what phone to get next I settled on the Sony. Nowadays, most premium phones are pretty much similar and it’s a hard choice choosing, one which comes to personal preference.

Now I wouldn’t say I’m blown away by the Sony, that title still goes to the Mate 20 Pro when I first got that. However what the Sony does, is all the big important things…… very well.

Screen and colours are fantastic, 120hz is now my norm and I won’t settle for less

Screen aspect ratio is perfect for me, this is a true one handed phone and I don’t miss the width

Plenty of performance, everything runs perfectly

Finger print reader is lightning fast, far better, although not a impressive as in screen ones

The front facing dual speakers are great

    The manual…

Just to put some context, prior to this review, my primary smartphone was a 4 years old iPh0ne7. When unboxing this and holding this Xperia 5 ii for the first time, i fell in love with it immediately. Why? Well, it’s because it shares the same piano Jet black gloss finish. More importantly, it shares a similar 6.7 cm width and 0.7cm depth with smooth curved edges. I was intrigued to learn more about the Xperia 5ii.

    *Display*:
After powering up the Xperia 5 ii, i was greeted with a 6.1 inch full HD Plus (1080 x 2520) display. I found the display settings option for 120Hz refresh rate and enabling it… this blew me away. I love the buttery smoothness it gives on the screen scrolling / transition animation. You really have to see this for yourself. The colours are bright and vivid on this OLED panel. The 21:9 aspect ratio admittedly took me a while to become accustomed to it. However, i found this super useful when doing split screen on portrait mode. Having two apps on split screen…
