Very happy with the phone in all respects other than the tight memory, i.e. about 1.7GB left for user apps.

Android really does need a minimum of 4GB for user space … I’m continually clearing the cache.

It would be OK if you could push entire selected apps onto the SD card BUT part is left on the phone’s memory!

It’s lucky music and photos can be written directly to the SD card.

Bought this phone as a Christmas gift for my wife. She insisted she wanted it in white. After using it for a month, the corners of the body of the phone (not the case) have turned a dark brown colour. As the case is white the fault with the material used to make the body is more obvious. WARNING: The Seller GSM only have a 2 week returns policy and more or less told us “Tough”. Sony weren’t bothered either and wanted to charge us to make a “repair”. Will not be buying Sony again or anything from GSM.

Firstly, a great phone if you don’t want to install many applications. After installing a handful of apps the phone was reporting it was full, mainly because Android and the Sony software use a good chunk of the inbuilt storage so your 4GB of storage is actually around 2GB. On top of this without rooting the device you cannot store your apps on the SD card.

Pity really as it was a really good phone just let down by limited internal storage.

I have bought this phone 6 months ago, and thought its time to actually review it. This is a smartphone in a cheaper phones category, but I have owned a few of these ‘cheaper’ smartphones before, and they were nowhere near as good as this. I would have some problems with the screen after half a year with those, and the system would get noticeably slower. But it’s not the case with this one. If you don’t care much for fancy glass screens, fancy camera and most of all a high price of the phone, Sony Xperia E3 is definitely worth a try. It’s small enough to fit in your pocket, feels quite sturdy (have had it fall out of my hands several times and not a scratch or some other issues), has a memory card slot. The battery is ok I guess, I use a handful of apps every day, so it lasts me a full day, and I always charge it through the night. The battery is a part of the phone, so don’t expect to be buying a new one if this one becomes sluggish. I’m not going to talk about processors and…

Currently using this phone, it is fine for me, I just want messages, calls and email, maybe the odd use of shopping apps.
I don’t use most of the options on the phone but sound & photo quality is good, it’s quick enough for me and easy to set-up and use.
Battery seems to last well too.

I wanted a basic 4G phone and I guess this one for the price meets that criteria.

    It only has two negatives.

    1. System flash updates have to be done using the Sony pc app with the phone linked to your PC

    2. Limited Phone RAM

After a Factory Reset it has 654Mb Used 1.1Gb Free
Some apps can be removed which then gives you 488Mb Used 1.3Gb Free

However, all application updates both from Sony and Android will then eat into the free ram

When I set my one up this amounted to 28 Google updates and 6 Sony updates

After these the phone has 704Mb Used and 1.1Gb free which looks great on paper

However, when you start to install your own applications and the installed applications start storing data e.g. The Facebook app which can start to use over 100Mb with no option to transfer it to the SD card.

So my phone setup and running with as many apps transferred to SD card (that permit you) has 1.4Gb used and 280Mb free.

This value still tends to drop giving the automatic warning to transfer data to SD card…

Really good phone and decent value for money. I purchased two of these and am really happy with them. Screen is bright and clear, the operating system is snappy and never lags and Sony have installed a non-skinned Android so you don’t have to contend with too much fluff and junk (tho the Sony apps and nag messages can be a bit irritating).

Unlike the more expensive “z” series, this phone has a standard removable plastic rear cover where the micro SIM and micro SD are installed. Although visible with the cover off, the battery looks to be a sealed non-removable unit.

The 5MP camera is so-so but adequate for basic photos and in good light gets decent shots. My only criticism is the internal memory of 4GB of which only 2GB is available for user apps so extra storage from a micro SD card is a must. Marked down a star rating for these two weaknesses.
