My review used to be 5 star, however I dropped it in the sink today while shaving and now the USB port no longer works, the phone cannot be charged. Now i’m left with a paperweight. Kind of sucks, every Xperia I’ve owned that has fallen into water has never come out fine. For example my Xperia Z1 and Z3 Compact had broken headphone jacks after a dunk, this one a broken USB. If it is waterproof then every aspect of the phone shoul work after a dip, I don’t know if this damage is warranty covered.
Anyway the phone….
Great camera, however be aware it is a wide angle lens compared to some phones therefore objects will look much further away than they are, this is beneficial for capturing more in one shot. The camera at the full 23 megapixels takes longer to process.
The design is my favorite of any phone, ever! The aluminium back and re positioning of the USB port plus redesigned front facing speakers are a vast improvement over the Z3, dedicated lanyard slot and camera button are nice…

I am very impressed with the Z5. Given the specs it’s no surprise how fast and responsive the phone is and it can easily handle whatever is thrown at it. The display is very crisp and rich – it is not over-satuated, instead it has clear colours and a distinct black. The video camera is excellent and videos look amazing on playback – quality and depth. Camera is also excellent but the most you can get on wide-screen aspect is 20 MP and not the 23 MP as stated by Sony (this is only for 4:3 aspect). The sound is the best I’ve heard on a phone – when it comes to listening to music through headphones or speakers this phone delivers. Another big plus is the expandable storage option of up to 200 GB on top of the 32 GB internal – being able to expand of storage is a must for me. The SIM free UK version I got also had no bloatware making it even better. The fingerprint access is ingenious – a unexpected surprise and extremely accurate. One draw back is the battery life – I cannot get 48…

Would I recommend this: no
Do listen to the other reviews when buying this phone, the heating up of it is a definite issue. I wish I had listened and bought the newer version of the phone. The phone itself is a nice phone, the camera is brilliant and the fingerprint scanner is well placed, exactly where you finger rests if you hold it in one hand. If you want to take photos and go on Facebook this phone will do the job, but then again so would a cheaper phone
The issue is if you want to play games or watch, record or stream video. Anything strenuous like videos is what sees the phone heat up rather quickly (great in winter). This does cause issues with the phone shutting itself down and also greatly reduces the battery life. Sony do make well built phones, but unfortunately this didn’t deliver in the same way my Sony phones over the last 9 years have. When it comes to buying a new one it will probably be a closer choice between the Sony and the Samsung because of this phone.

I wrote the review below a while ago, kind of negative but I gave it 4 stars. It has now been 2 months since the phone arrived and I’ve had to buy a new one form argos. The phone completely died, it is totally unuseable. I contacted the seller whose response was a short and snotty reference to the fact I’d had the phone longer than the 30 day return period. In the UK you can get a refund on defective technological items for up to a year. Amazon are inform and hopefully they will sort this out.
Old review: I bought this as a replacement for this exact same phone. However I think I bought that one second hand from GAME. This phone shuts down randomly and gets so hot. I’ve never known a phone to get so hot. I have a case on the phone and can feel the heat through the case. Now the packaging that came was from China, whether this is where the phones are usually made I don’t know but I didn’t expect it would come from so far given the sellers information is UK.
Love the colour, always…
Mr. Kevin Young –
This is NOT the standard Z5 and does not have 3G or 4G capability neither is it a UK product as stated!

Upgraded from an Xperia Z1 Compact to the Mid-tier Z5. So far very happy with the phone, can’t really say ive had any problems with it yet except the very rare freeze up.
Fast at most tasks, can get a day out of the battery, or two in stamina mode (my z1 compact barely lasted half a day!). The camera is excellent on it, 4G is lightning, and I like the fingerprint sensor. Very pleased with this phone.
