Do not buy this product! I purchased one, plugged it in and moved all of my documents onto it as backup only to have them completely disappear within a month!
I have tried to get product support but nobody is able to help! The latest is that I have been given a number for product support when actually it goes through to Tina Webb’s voicemail. The support guy said that that is the number that he has been using. WILD GOOSE CHASE!!!
I am gutted that I have lost my money for a device that doesn’t work and also all of my files including my photos of my new born baby.
DO NOT BUY

I bought this particular drive because it was a bit cheaper than my usual preferred brands of Samsung/Western Digital, of which I have owned many over the years (of various sizes), and have never gave me any problems. Within 10 minutes of inserting this admittedly very sleek compact drive, it had locked my PC up requiring me to force restart my computer in order to gain control. I then had to go through the process of repairing my PC via my Win7 disc, which takes about 15 minutes each time. After going through this exact process 4 more times, I gave up. Not worth the hassle just to save a few quid. I returned it and will only buy my normal brands from now on.

I have 3 of the 2016 versions of this product that have served me well for a couple of years (used with a Windows 7 desktop), so I bought a 2018 version for my new laptop (Windows 10).
I wish I hadn’t! It has corrupted and become unreadable after only 2 months. Luckily it was ‘only’ a backup.

Perfect for purpose.
Basically I bought a new LG 2018 4K Smart TV and needed the option to record. (I’m relying a lot on the built in tuner etc rather than a dedicated box.) This item came with some good reviews.
Have tried and tested (just plugged and played into USB port 1) No formatting needed. If your smart TV has the feature of being able to record then an HDD like this should be perfectly suitable for you. Once recorded you can have option to pause/rewind. Very nice and essentially completes the setup for me (I am trying to avoid bulky set top boxes)
This item is also much smaller than I thought. Am currently looking at a way to secure it to the back of the television (similar to an HDD bracket for PC) Would be much tidier this way.
I believe it also works fine for Samsung TV’s. So expect it will work for all brands (AS long as your TV supports recording (many don’t))

UPDATE:
Still using this drive and has been reliable and a great buy from Amazon. Recently after receiving a VIP code for a PlayStation 5 I sold my PlayStation 4 and now on the latest gen. I hooked everything up the same but this time you want to plug the Toshiba hard drive to the back of the PlayStation 5 as it has x2 USB 3.0 ports. Iโve copied some games to it and itโs still been fine and have been running PlayStation 4 games on it such as Wolfenstein Alt Collection, Tony Hawks Pro Skater 1 & 2, Serious Sam etc and has worked flawlessly.
This drive will also store your PlayStation 5 games on it but wonโt be able to run them as itโs not a SSD so not compatible for that but for storage and being able to run those PlayStation 4 Disc and Digital games itโs still a top gem.
At the end of the day itโs an external hard drive and like any other 3.0 with a usb they will work for Playstation or Xbox. If they have their own format tool which they do you wonโt have any problems. The first thing…

Whoever had this before me must have been another of the 1-star reviews. Drive isn’t new.
I hope I can tip the balance against these cheap knockoffs. Amazon should not sell these re-cons as new.
The firmware is AWFUL, the power-handling TERRIBLE and reliability is intermittent. Transfer is slooow.
TRY writing more than 900GB, you WILL lose it ALL! Forget about defragging, it fails every time.
As does formatting.
I’m sorry, I liked Toshiba Video Recorders buth their HDDs have always been terrible.
CHEAP FOR A REASON. Pay more for a decent Western Digital Ultra. They last and go the distance at a good pace.
Returned, with comments, I lost over a Gig of data and it RUINED Christmas (bought as a gift) for my Wife!

Actually destructive and has damaged my computer. I plugged it into my MacBook (after checking that it would work for macs) and it crashed my computer, to the point where it wonโt even switch on and Iโve had to make an appointment to get it repaired by Apple. Iโm hoping that Apple will be able to fix it, but if not, this hard drive will have killed my laptop with all my data on it also. A very expensive, horrible mistake, that has made me sick to my stomach.
