Wouldn’t be without one of these, marmalade, curries, lentils and pulses, potentialy ” tough” cuts of meat and the Xmas gammon. All cooked economically and easily. No lingering odours or corrosion, the latter can be a problem when making some of the strong flavoured chutneys containing vinegar that can start to corode the aluminium. Less sizzling and hence quieter than the previous three ring weight model. It can be a bit eerie to start with, but you soon get used to it. If you want to be eco-friendly, you need one of these.

Oy. It’s difficult to decide how to rate this. Well, the bad is that I noticed it leaking underneath the handle while pressurized, which cannot be expected behaviour (right?) and this makes me too nervous to use it any longer, so as a purchase it’s definitely a fail for me. On the positive side, while I did use it, the dishes I cooked (butter chicken, beef stew, bean soup, potatoes for mashed potatoes) turned out great. I’m a novice user, so that’s encouraging, yet because I don’t have experience, I don’t know what is expected and what is not. These are my observations: leaking from under the handle, though I’m sure I didn’t add too much food (or too little liquid). This happened while making beef stew and it was quite a bit of leaking — enough to drip down the pot (ingredients were meat, veg, 400ml chicken broth, altogether coming to a bit under the halfway mark on the pot), and while cooking a large frozen chicken breast in 500ml of water … but only a small amount of leaking…

Using a pressure cooker will save money and time. To cook vegetables takes only 4 to 6 minutes and only 0.5 to 0.75 pints of water used which collects all the vitamins form the vegetables and can be used to make the gravy. Cooking with the pressure cooker enables the cooker to continue cooking when the steam pressure has been reached and hence the vapour is contained in the cooker and not released to the kitchen, causing condensation. What is missing from the Tower pressure cooker is the bottom steamer plate. This sits on the bottom above the water and allows potatoes to sit on this and the vegetable basket can sit on top with the green vegetables and sliced carrots. The steamer tray can be bought as an extra for a couple of pounds on Amazon. Also the steam basket is now more shallow and vegetables are not as secure as with the previous deeper basket. I have kept my old baskets and these can be stacked for larger families. The Tower pressure cooker is easy to use and I would…

The second time I used the pressure cooker, the locking mechanism would not release, despite having released all the pressure. I even ran cold water over the pressure cooker, but still it was jammed. To remove the food, I had to unscrew the bottom handle. Examining the sliding plastic lock, I found it randomly failed to move into unlocked position.

It is a great shame that the lock is not better engineered and constructed, as the pressure cooker itself is of good quality stainless steel construction.

This came with a broken handle but Amazon sent a replacement within a couple of days. A pressure cooker is a must have in our home because we use to make South East Asian food like curries and kormas, it does the job well and is big enough to cook food for a family of 4.

I had an old Tower pressure cooker for about twenty years so I am comparing the two – old and new. First impression is that the new version is lighter. The pressure limiting device is spring loaded and not a weight to place on the outlet. Using the new version and coming up to pressure there are ‘dribbles’ of water coming out onto the hob. When up to pressure the steam comes out straight up instead of off to one side. And don’t try to use the steam release or you will get severe burns! Instead place the vessel under cold water to reduce the pressure. Overall I would say that this is an economy version with no improvement over the old model.

The retention of flavour in the meals Ive made in this pressure cooker is awesome. I almost cried when I cooked up a brisket in one hour and it was divine, best Iโ€™ve ever eaten. I cook a whole chicken for my cat every week and now itโ€™s done in 25 mins instead of 1 1/2 hours in my gas oven, and itโ€™s cutting my gas usage down considerably. Very easy to use, just read up before you go ahead. The pot is heavy and it is a beggar to clean as it needs scrubbed after use but small price to pay, given such good results. Much better than a slow cooker in terms of flavour too.

I have used a lot of pressure cookers over the years and this is good value for money BUT occasionally it leaks near the handle. Not sure why, and it doesn’t happen every time I use it. One cure seems to be to make sure you wash and rinse the lid, seal, and handle.
Recommended with reservations, taking into account a possible fault.
