This is one of the very few times I’ve been compelled to write a review. I’ve had a problem with this adaptor every single day since purchase date. Whenever I boot up windows the adaptor connects to the WiFi network but there is no internet so I have to disconnect and reconnect. It then works for about 20 seconds and then the it stops working. I then disconnect and reconnect again and it then starts working. I’ve had to do this every time I use the PC since student days in 2015. I have optic fibre so the problem isn’t with the internet. DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE.

I recently bought this adapter to use for my work PC. I have been using it for a few days now and have constant issues, I’ve tried so many various solutions I’ve found online as it is such a common issue.
It constantly is randomly disconnecting from my computer. Windows makes the noise as if you are unplugging a USB device and then makes that noise again, despite not touching the adapter and having tried multiple USB ports. I have researched this and there are so so many posts online with no solution that are claiming to have this same issue.
I decided to ignore the bad review on here and but it anyway – please don’t do what I did. If you have Windows 10, this seems to be a very common fault and not worth your time and energy you will spend trying to make this work.

Utter rubbish. Does NOT connect to 5Ghz networks for longer than 2 mins. Does NOT connect at USB3 speeds, only at USB2.1. I have tried TPLinkโs driver from their website, DOES NOT work. I have been on various forums for the past 6 hours downloading and trying new drivers and chipset drivers and other brand drivers. Have reinstalled windows twice just in case. Still only connects to my access point 2ghz network. Access point is only 1.5 meters away so signal shouldnโt be an issue. Surprisingly this isnโt the first tplink device that Iโve had this issue with. Never trying tplink ever again for anything. Rubbish company.

Trash! even forced to 5Ghz (802.11ac) mode, you only get a MAXIMUM of around 230MBPS (less than a third of the advertised 867) connection speed, so for networking purposes, it’s pretty poor. on 2.4Ghz modes You get a MAX of 173MBPS, (again, far short of the advertised 400).
Also took a bit of digging around in the settings before windows would let me use it as a hotspot.
For anyone hoping to share their wired connection from a PC with other devices, this thing is totally useless.

Despite all the negative reviews on this site, I found the Archer T3U very easy to install and once signed into the Wifi, even on a powerline repeater, I was getting around 45Mbs. Perfectly stable and when on the hub I was getting around 48Mbs. Here’s a hint – DON’T plug it into the computer until you have installed the TP-LINK driver. If you do, Windows will install its generic driver, which may not be as stable. Use the disk or download the driver. Run the executable and the TP-LINK installer will tell you that it can’t find the unit. When it does THEN plug the T3U in. You will then be running on the correct driver.

It gets 5 stars because I got it working properly eventually and for such a small device, the speed is impressive.
However, it wasnโt a great out of box experience. I replaced an old 300mbps pcie card that I got sick of for being half the speed of my internet connection. So, as I have a TP-Link Deco mesh system I thought one of their adapters would be fine.
Downloaded the drivers from their site before beginning and the setup utility searched for the adapter and it installed. Downloaded a game from Steam and it was 10mbps. Two thirds less than the old adapter!
Downloaded RTL8812BU drivers from Realtek and it was no better. Removed all drivers and let Windows install its own and still no good.
Eventually, the problem turned out to be having 2.4ghz and 5ghz enabled on the mesh at the same time. Even when connected on 5ghz the link speed was either 54mbps or at best 300mbps when on 2.4ghz.
Anyway, with the mesh serving only 5ghz the link speed is 800mbps as advertised and Iโm finally…

The trouble is with these reviews with the TP-Link devices is they are all jumbled together, you never know what review you are reading for what device. Let me make this simple. If you are planning to use the TL-WN822N as a hotspot (softap mode) to share your PCs ethernet connection over WIFI, dont. The TP-Link software doesnt even detect it, even though windows does. Spent hours and hours trying to get this working. Arranged a return, very dissapointed.
