This has been a fantastic purchased. To put things in context, we live in a 3 story new build. Our Plusnet router was located on the ground floor. The WiFi signal was poor in the rooms furthest to the router on the 2nd and 3rd floor. Previous trials of a WiFi extenders was abysmal. We got this to give it a go and I’m so glad we did. I bought the 3 unit pack and placed one on each floor. Setup was simple and straightforward using the Deco app for Android. The unit on the ground floor was plugged into the Plusnet router that was switched to modem mode. You literally just follow the instructions on the screen. Once setup, there was a strong signal in all the rooms in the house. Speed even on the 3rd floor was 58mbps which was so much better than before. Also I’ve not encountered any resets or drops in signal over the last 4 months since we bought this! Also noticed our EE WiFi calling is so much clearer. This has been a revelation. Don’t hesitate if you’re thinking of buying this.

Purchased a 3 set of Deco P9 to accommodate a 3 story house which multiple wired devices also. A big selling point of these for me what the Powerline backhaul which is great because the house is not cat6 cabled to accommodate standard wireless access points.
I encountered my first problem when setting up the first device: I had to install an application on my phone to begin setup and there is no web user interface that every other router/network device has.
I wanted to setup my 3 devices as access points and keep the existing router as this existing Netgear router supports features such as IPSec site-to-site VPNs whereas the Deco does not, this is fine I thought as the devices are advertised to be placed into access point mode. I quickly found the access point setting in the app and changed my Deco to it. I connected it via ethernet to my router and it worked flawlessly.
I thought this was brilliant it was going to work no problem, so I started setting up the other two Deco P9 in the…

Easy to set up but the system has a fundamental design flaw that TP-Link have known about for well over a year and is driving their customers crazy all over their user forum.
A mesh system is supposed to have each satellite connecting to its nearest satellite, thus retaining good WifI throughout your home. The Deco system does not work like this. Each satellite connects to the primary Deco which will be the one connected to your modem via ethernet.
This means the furthest Deco satellite from your modem / primary Deco, will suffer from very poor WiFi performance because it is receiving its signal from a Deco a long way from it, rather than the Deco closest to it. This is not how mesh systems are supposed to work.
In my case, I was standing next to a Deco in my office but my device was choosing to connect to the Deco downstairs because it had a stronger signal. This made the 3rd Deco (my office one) completely redundant as it could never give as strong a connection as the other 2.
I am…
