I was fed up of the dismal wifi performance of my Virgin Superhub 3, so switched it into modem mode and used an external router (Tenda AC11). This works perfectly and provides far, far better wifi coverage but the AC11 only has 3 spare ports after I’ve plugged the Superhub in so I wanted a cheap easy easy way to provide some more ports.

This switch was under ยฃ10 when I ordered, and has done the job perfectly. Just plug the power supply in and you are good to go – it was a case of just connecting the switch to my router (using one of the 5 ports) and that’s it , you now have 4 x extra ethernet ports to use. That’s literally all there is to it – no configuration or messing about, it really is just plug it in and you are away.

If, like me, you are using this for Virgin Media with your Superhub in modem mode then one thing to note is that only one of the virgin Superhub ethernet ports is active – this means you’ll need to plug this switch into your new external router as opposed to into…

Superb, small form factor network switches. What do these actually do you might ask. They simply allow you to take an ethernet cable (aka CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6 and now CAT7) from the back of your home network router (your BT Superhub/Smarthub or Virgin Superhub), and plug it into any of the 5 ports on this thing. You then have four ports free to connect ethernet cables from to you other devices. I’m lucky in that our new house had preinstalled network sockets around the house, but the BT SmartHub didn’t work very well in the cupboard under the stairs, so I moved it into the living room. Greath signal now, but I needed a way to “power” the other network plugs around the house. Enter these little beauties. I plugged an ethernet cable from my BT Smarthub into the nearest network wall socket. I then went to to cupboard under the stairs (where the other ends of all the house network sockets terminate). I found which socket had the incoming signal from the router (i.e. the corresponding…

Ordered one and unfortunately the power supply was not working , so could not use it . Amazon kindly replaced the switch ( I thought they would just have replaced the power supply ) . Connected to my router and P.C , then plugged in the PSU . within seconds pc was connected to internet . Yes its made out of plastic , but I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a metal casing . It does what it’s meant to do at a reasonable price . It comes with a 3 year warranty ( sticker on the box ). It says 5 port , in reality it’s only 4 as one is taken up by the router , so you have 4 free slots.

I purchased this as i purchased a new wifi mesh routers but wanted a wired backhaul and my existing ethernet cable was just over a meter to short, I looked into getting a ethernet coupler but for the price difference it was worth getting this desktop switch. Its honestly a lot smaller than i expected but this was a plus as it made it super easy to hide. I was worried that it may cause a bit of bandwidth congestion or add a bottle neck but my internal speed tests show no slowdown at all from being directly connected to my router. If you have a couple of devices you need to connect or need to extend a cable, i highly recommend this mini desktop switch, you cant go wrong with this price.
P.s its a unmanaged switch so its plug and play.
The only thing i would change about this switch would be to move the power cable from the side to the front or back to make it cleaner.

I just plugged it in and voila, internet.
I just wish there was a better way to attach it to a wall as blue-tack isn’t the most elegant, or practical.
I just plugged my original ethernet cable into port 1, and my devices into the others. I don’t know if that’s how it should be, but it works nonetheless.
For some reason I had to rate thickness. The device itself it little more than the size of the connectors themselves. The device itself is tiny!

For those who are annoyed at my use of “Ethernet” rather than “RJ45”, please note:
    1) No one cares: If the relevant information is correct, no one cares.
    2) They aren’t RJ45, they are 8P8C modular connectors. If you’re going to correct someone, at least be correct yourself.

Bought this to replace an older TP link switch that was starting to fail. Nice neat unit, dead easy to use, sadly halved the throughout from my pc to the network with only the two connections active. Direct connection 25mbps, via the switch only 9mbps so useless for streaming 4k. Tested connections with a spare 100/10 switch and straight back up to 25mpbs. A GE switch should eat that sort of speed without any bother. Returned and now looking for another brand. Maybe a faulty unit, but this is the second TP link switch that has the same issue.
