Love it. Used in my dell XPS 13.
Please note. On the XPS the pcie lanes are in low power mode. You will not get the advertised speeds unless you have the right amount of lanes available running in full power. My PC can hit the advertised speeds. So happy with this drive that I am going to buy a 500gb for my PC. Going to get away from SATA for my OS drive plus most used software.

I’m not going to comment on speed or ease of installation as there are many reviews already about all that. I cannot comment on reliability either as I’ve just purchased it. So my 3 star rating is based on the WD software which has a side panel on the right running WD adverts, with no option of disabling. Every time it loads a new set of ads, it makes the software unresponsive for 3-4 seconds which is highly irritating. By comparison, the Samsung Magician software is my cleaner and slot less intrusive. So on that fact alone, I can’t recommend WD. Maybe I’m being harsh, but force-feeding ads is certainly unacceptable.

I bought this NVMe to add to my gaming system which was using a 128GB SSD from years ago. There is a massive change to the speed. Windows 10 now boots up in literally 4 seconds, if that. The post screen is up for longer than the boot process!
Windows 10 detects it and installs the drivers when installing too, which is excellent.
Gaming; well, I am the 1st to load into a game area and wait for the others. Everything is so much faster! I was going to purchase one of the competitor NVMe’s but went for the WD one as a “punt”. Glad I did. I bought the 2019 version.

Whilst the drive itself works very well it comes with no screws or spacers to fit it comfortably onto the motherboard so I had to order some from elsewhere. Not sure if this is common with NVME drives as this is my first one but disappointed by the lack of fairly basic parts.

Super fast. Make sure you have the tiny screws in your motherboard, and I do n’t mean the riser!
So in my MSI X470 GAMING PRO motherboard, the only things that wwere installed were the two risers, that look like screws, they look like all you would need, but take one out and look closely at it, it might have a little thread i nthe centre with no screw!
MAKE SURE you know this before you purchase as these do not come with any screws. Unit and paperwork ONLY.
I can suggest you search for m.2 screw or something on ebay or something. WHY DON’T THEY GIVE YOU THE SCREWS WITH THE DAMN BOARD.
Anyway, the performance is great, so 5 stars, ease to install is 4… well let me change that to 2. Because why. Give people the effing screws for the damn item. I blame MSI for this and other MOBO manufactuteres that don’t unclude them and I blame Western Digital as well.
Great item sitting by itself if you cut all of the installation part out. 5/5 for the item itself.

Ash

Good read write times, haven’t even enabled gaming mode on it.
Thermals are in the 40-50s.
very satisfied with the performance.

I work in IT myself and have built my own computers and recently switched back to using a laptop as having a child means I can’t go sit in my office :).
I bought this to increase the storage space on my laptop, not a problem fit perfectly fine however I’ve had constant BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) issues pertaining to Driver Violations since I have installed this SSD.
I ruled out the possibility of my laptop by performing a full re-format on my machine, I then tested my theory by installing NOTHING on the second SDD (WD Black) and not had any issues, then decided to put a 30GB Game on there to test how the SSD would perform within 10 minutes I had a BSOD.
Unfortunately for me I’m well outside my purchase period however I am going to complain as this is disgraceful, in the mean time I have ordered a Samsung EVO 970 instead as my original SSD was Samsung, may as well pay the extra few quid to have a performing piece of kit.

I needed a storage capacity upgrade for my OS and I purhased this WD Black 500 GB but I was expecting a better product from WD…
A clean Windows install on a machine with 32GB Ram i7 6950X and the result is 809 MBs? Not even close to the claimed 3470 MBs. I understand that is “up to” but I really wonder how was that “up to achieved”?
Phisically is very sturdy compared with Samsung Evo, the heatsink is plus but the speeed for an NVMe m2 drive is appealing compared with my Samsung Evo 970 250GB where the average speed is 2200.
Unfortunatley this is very poor quality drive from WD (probably hence the lower price) and is in the return box.
I preffer to pay more and buy a Samsung Evo….
