Bought this TV to replace a 6 year old Samsung, which had developed purple patches over the screen. The price of this Philips TV at the time was quite low at £375, at the time of writing this review 5 months into owning the TV the price is almost £100 higher.
The good things, remote control responds well in that you don’t need to point to directional at the TV, it is a little slow to respond at times but nothing too terrible, Ambilight is great! Sound isn’t bad for built in speakers. Smart apps are OK but limited, no Disney Plus or Now TV, you do get Prime and Netflix as well as the main TV channel catch up services plus you can download a selection of random apps.
Not so good, I’ve struggled to get a decent picture on this TV from day 1, HD and 4K bright out door or well lit studio pictures look fantastic, that’s where the good picture quality ends, non HD channels have a soft fuzzy look to them, they almost look like the old days of analogue TV when your aerial was a bit dodgy,…

Bought this TV on recommendation of a local AV shop, Amazon have it at an incredibly competitive price, plugged it in and went through the set up process, tried to watch a 1080p source, and dear lord, the picture looks like my 2 year old drew it. Shocking. Lack of clarity, colour balance is shocking and the depth of image was very very poor.

The overall build quality is low, squeaky plastic, the screws on the feet are too big for the holes which are redrilled, or more likely cast into the body. The screws are such cheap rubbish that good luck getting them out if you do manage to get them to go in…

For the price you can get a 2019 LG nanocell if you shop around a little. Do that.

Oh, and dont buy this expecting a good array of apps for video streaming. Especially not if you have kids. No Disney+ was the nail in the coffin for this TV. Extremely disappointing.

This TV is amazing.. not sure why the other reviewers are giving a 1 star? Maybe they are not sure how to change the settings for the picture because I have tweeked them and the TV is performing perfectly, no artifacts or bad blacks – it’s a perfect viewing experience for night time and DAYtime viewing… The ambilight steals the show as it is an amazingly pleasureable thing to watch and enjoy, it’s on ‘game mode’ as this reacts best with the motion of the scene. We got the 50inch and haven’t looked back since. 5 stars. The only annoying thing however is when you do have to change the settings for the picture, they don’t seem to save when you switch it off by the wall… Also there is no reference demo to see as you adjust, which means you have to tweak and then load up Netflix or whatever you want to see the change. Also for anyone wondering, you can plug speakers into the headphone jack and it works just right.

This is a great TV for the price. It has a 10-bit MVA panel which reproduces vibrant colour with great contrast. Black level and white point are rather accurate. Backpanel uniformity is also good. The built in bias lighting ie Ambilight is excellent and not a gimmick. It reduces the perceived brightness of then display rather reducing eye fatigue while also making the scene feel more expansive due to the colour of the video frame being reproduced. This is the best bias lighting I’ve found and in a TV at this price it’s well worth it. Other manufacturers are not allowed to include bias lights due to what I suspect are patent and licensing restrictions due to Ambilight being an original Philips product. I’ve always used LG or Samsung but I can safely say these TVs are very good. Better than the competition in my opinion. The speakers are not bad and the operating system ie SAPHI is functional and more responsive than last years iteration. The control is light and tactile to use. The…
