On the face of it this seemed like a good deal. I bought it as an android TV to use in a bedroom where I have no aerial access for terrestrial signals. I assumed I would be able to add apps such as BBC i-player and ITV hub. However, the google playstore offers neither of these as options. I saw a review which mentioned sideloading apps but there is no browser to access the internet and the playstore does not offer google chrome as an app.
I may be doing something wrong here so comments would be welcome, but it is proving a pain in the butt to navigate and is nowhere near as user friendly as an MXIII smart android tv box I bought some time ago. I have connected that box to the TCL by hdmi, thus using the tv as a monitor, but that seems to defeat the object and I might just as well connect to a standard monitor.
Update 24 Sept.
Thanks to the review of davec I researched side loading of apps and now have BBC and ITV apps installed by that method. The itv hub was in portrait mode so…

The TV is not as advertised with fhd (1080p) it is in fact 720p the description says 1080p with a ppi of 400 when the real ppi is ~36. It is an outright lie

I bought this as a bedroom TV. I really like this little set. For the price it I can’t find anything better. Setup is a breeze, just like your Android phone or tablet, link it to your google account and your practically done. The controller is fine, long rather than wide, but suprisingly it sits nice in the hand. It is responsive and I have no complaints about it.
Picture quality is fine, and although not 1080p, 720p is fine for the bedroom, and combined with the HDR makes for quite a nice sharp viewing experience. It also seems to upscale very well too, so lower resolution 576i signals/inputs actually look better than some other TV’s in the house.
On to the sound, its not great. Very tinny, its all high, little to no mids or bass. But it is acceptable, well its better than acceptable and lets face it, this TV isn’t going to be the centre piece of a home AV system.
The Android TV operating system on this TV is fantastic. It works really well. I thought this is what was going to let…

I thought I’d try to address some of the other points I’ve read in reviews:
“Boot up time is poor”
– this can be fixed by enabling the standby mode in settings. This keeps the TV on, but the screen off, meaning that it will turn on instantly (although it will use more power when not in use).
“On to the sound, its not great. Very tinny, its all high, little to no mids or bass”
– I personally thought it was fine, the bass can be tweaked in the audio settings, and there’s a setting for if the TV is wall mounted or on the stand which will tweak the sound
“Can’t find screen mirroring option in this tv all.”
– Works like any other chromecast device
“Big issue is the lack of BBC iplayer app.”
– True, no app, but you can cast iPlayer using your phone, or sideload the APK
Overall, this is a great TV, especially for the price. Very light which makes wall mounting it very easy.
I’d recommend enabling “network standby” in the network settings so you can cast to it while it’s turned off (otherwise you…

Bought this (32″) TV for my daughter for her University Digs’. I wanted to get the most tech possible for the lowest cost in a 32″ screen, and who knows if its gonna get trashed in one of the many car moves she has. I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to tech so was pushing the boundaries of my wish list whilst also being very surprised how much a small smart TV costs from the main brands. Came across TCL, did my research and was impressed with what I found.
So onto the TV..
On the plus :- Screen quality is good, sound surprisingly good, smart options are first rate even with latest KODI installed.
On the negative :- Boot up time is poor (its android), Voice control out of the box doesn’t work as it needs a different controller (not supplied) which is very disappointing and feels very light and plastic
Would I advise others buy this – Yes. It’s well worth the money even considering the negatives listed above.
