    Great product

Excellent router. Had it set up within minutes and it is working well. Not many mi-fi devices out there with an ethernet socket. I am using it for a voip phone system, to keep it separate from my cable broadband, as calls get interrupted if a huge file download or upload happens while you use the phone. Solved my call interruption problems, can use the voip phone uninterrupted now while down and uploading big files via my cable broadband.

Fast. But router has no other function. So if you need a LTE router, it is a fast one. If you need a complete router, it is not.

    great product

Great product, we asked vodafone to give us an extra sim card connected to our business mobile contract. The sim card costs us £10 and wow – we have fast wifi in the office and using the data bundle we already have on our mobile which isnt used much on some of the lines.

I have an EE box which we use in our holiday home and is very hit and miss in our area, bought this unit plus an external arial to help improve connection.Even without the arial this unit has proved to be consistent with excellent download speeds -extremely happy.

… supposed to be capable of providing signal with a good range. I live in a timber framed house

I purchased this item as it is supposed to be capable of providing signal with a good range.I live in a timber framed house, the device is not capable of sending the signal to the upstairs or through the timber built partition walls to the room next-door.Therefore I would not recommend this device. I still have to use a WIFI range extender with this device.

    Brilliant.

Brilliant. We went from very little reception to a consistent 10 Mbps with this router. We then added the yagi antenna and now get reliable 25 Mbps. Has really sorted out the internet for us in our rural black spot.

Does exactly what I hoped, we live in a newish build with no high speed broadband but decent 4G so added a data sim and it works a treat. Can’t really comment if you need intense networking options

    Very fast using EE.

I got this from another supplier (it was cheeper), but I’m glad I got this 4G router. In london appently, EE is running 4G+, so to take advantage of it you need a router that can down load at 300Mbps, and guess what…I managed to get download speeds of 95Mbps which is faster than most cable/fibre operators.

    Not worth the money

Hi if you’re thinking about buying this product I would think twice, I had several issues with this 4g mobile broadband router .. losing connection .. over heating that’s just a few.To be honest it’s overpriced and I’m not a cheapskate but not worth the money, I sent it back and brought https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0161ACBE0/ref=pe_1993841_148911461_em_1p_3_ti?th=1&psc=1Half the price and does twice the job with no hassle .. auto reconnects .. so many options.Just an honest review of how I found the router ..

Performance is good both WiFI and 2/3/4G, but…

Performance is good both WiFI and 2/3/4G. There are a few problems though.Firstly you can’t seem to change the LAN IP address which could be an issue. Second, while there is a WAN/LAN port it is not obvious how to use the WAN/fallback option that is hinted at only. I am not even sure if this works at all or part of some future upgrade option. The domain blacklist feature does not work at all for me, which is odd.The main issue for me was in trying to get an external antenna to work. This was an improtant feature as we are in a weak signal area, whever I tried I could nto get an external antenna to work. The unit refuses to switch and the manual option has been removed from the version of software on my unit. There is referances to the switchover being dependant on the antenna having a low DC resistance to be “seen” tried this but again no luck. After TWO years of trying gave up and had to get another brand. This time went for an “industrial” unit where I can change all the settings manually. These “foolproof” domestic units are not worth the trouble.

Fully functional with ITA ho.mobile SIM

Fully functional with ITA ho.mobile SIMSIM’s Voice and Data works very well, the Italian language is also available in the interfaceAn adapter UK/EU is of course needed to connect the router with 220-240v. AC power line in ItalyThe two external antenna arms that come with it boost the signal (about 10-20%)The 192.168.xxx.xxx IP class is the only internal available, so if you need to operate with another IP class this router has very limited LAN management toolsFinally the button to switch on/off WiFi is very appreciated

Stability poor and then all of a sudden it has died!

I really liked this to begin with, then the wifi kept dropping out, then this weekend it totally dies on me no wifi at all and it changed its own SSID! I have had the box for just over two years but for the price I paid I would have liked a little more than two years out of it. Very dissapointed.

with no prospect of an upgrade to fibre – and then found that I have a good EE 4G signal in my rural location

I was tired of my hopelessly slow ADSL connection, with no prospect of an upgrade to fibre – and then found that I have a good EE 4G signal in my rural location. I wanted to see how well this worked before committing to a 4G contract – and I ordered the Huawei 4G router with a 6GB pre-paid EE SIM card. The good points:-* I get a good connection speed with the in-built antenna in the device – around 20 Mbit/s down and 10 Mbit/s up consistently – sometimes faster.* The EE 4G service works well – including with my VOIP/SIP phone and Netflix.* I decided to take out an EE 4G home broadband contract. This is normally £75/month for 100GB, but they discounted this to £60 because I was upgrading from the PAYG SIM that came with the device. That’s a handy £180 saving over the year!* The EE contract comes with the lower-spec Huawei cube device, but that is very limited compared with the E5186.Things to note:-* Positioning the device is critical. Try lots of different locations to maximise the signal strength. There are third-party apps you can use to see more detail on the signal (I’m using E5186 Toolbox.exe). More tools in the UI for optimising the signal would be useful.* I settled on putting it in the loft, and am going to try using a separate antenna to boost the signal further – not that I really need it, but I’m getting greedy now. I did choose this device because of the external antenna connections.* This device has very limited LAN management tools. The whole user interface is pretty limited. No options for setting reserved IP addresses (e.g. for your printer). That’s not going to bother most people, but is a limitation for more advanced users.* So I’m using it witha TP-Link powerline adapter, running it into a separate TP-Link router that I already had. I’ve left WiFi and DHCP switched off on the Huawei device so I can manage my home network with the better tools in the TP-Link device. In conclusion, this is a good device, and a big step-up from the “free” cube device. If I did it again, I’d probably go another notch higher and choose a higher-spec Huawei model with a few more management tools and options.

Fast 4G router giving fibre level speeds

I bought this router as I live in a broadband not – spot (despite living in central London I only got 1 Mbps) and wanted to switch to using 4G for my main broadband. After looking at the various options I decided to go for this one, despite it being relatively expensive, as it supports the latest LTE Advanced (also known as 4G+). I use the router with an EE data contract as they support 4G+ in my area.Overall I have been very impressed with the router as it gives a fast stable connection. Speed tests show a download speed of 50-60 Mbps download and 15 Mbps upload. This compares to a download speed of only 10-15 Mbps when I was using the EE wifi hotspot device provided with my contract. In effect I’m getting fibre broadband speeds using a 4G connection. The main pros are as follows- Very fast connection using 4G+- Seems to maintain a very stable connection at all times- Interface provides a monthly usage monitor so you can track against your contract data limits- Very easy to set up. I had it fully working 5-10 mins after arriving. Just put in the sim card, plug it in and register devices with it like you would with any other router (WPS is also supported to speed this up)- Useful lights on the case provide information on wifi and 4G connection strength- Supports 5Ghz wifi which should have less interference alongside traditional 2.4Ghz wifi and ethernet (all of which work seamlessly with each other)I have also found a couple of small cons, namely:- The router is slightly bigger than I was expecting/other routers. This is worth considering as it’s best to place it near a window to get the best signal- Web interface for changing settings etc is a bit clunky but it does contain most of the things you would want- Despite the 5Ghz wifi I find that the range is slightly less than my old Sky router. Still not bad and serves my whole house, but I expected it to be better. In summary, if you are after a fast 4G router and live in an area with 4G+ (you can check this on the EE coverage checker) then this is well worth the investment.

    LTE CAT6 Baby!

As a replacement to the EE Osprey 2; this hits the mark. EE LTE replaced my poor home broadband speeds of 0.25mbps and has replaced it with 40-60mbps. Yussssssssss….. But this is not a review of EE CAT 4. This is about the E5186s-22aAs a high-performance LTE CPE device, the E5186s-22a enables users to get access to wireless and wired networks. The E5186s-22a supports the following frequency bands:.. LTE.. Frequency division duplex (FDD): 2600/2100/1800/900/800 MHz.. FDD Down Link (DL) Carrier Aggregation (CA): 1800 MHz + 2600 MHz, 1800MHz + 800 MHz, 2600 MHz + 800 MHz, 1800 MHz intra-band contiguous,2600 MHz intra-band contiguous.. Time division duplex (TDD): 2600 MHz.. TDD DL CA: 2600 MHz intra-band contiguous.. DC-HSPA+/HSPA+/HSPA/UMTS: 2100/900 MHz.. EDGE/GPRS/GSM: 1900/1800/900/850 MHzThe Huawei E5186s-22a can work in any of the following network standards:.. LTE.. Dual Carrier High Speed Packet Access Plus (DC-HSPA+).. High Speed Packet Access Plus (HSPA+).. High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA).. High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA).. Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS).. Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution (EDGE).. General Packet Radio Service (GPRS).. Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM)The only weakness is the poor interface controls. You’d think we’d have better controls in the 21st century; but alas. No.So I stripped a star off for being stuck with a 1990s interface with LTE technology!

Very good, but would have hoped for more given the price.

After a couple of use I am generally pleased with the router which I purchased to replace my ADSL line. Download and uploads speeds are way in excess of what I was getting, (up to 80 MB download on EE 4G). Its also been pretty stable and being near the towers I have no need for the external antenna. On paper the spec is great with AC wireless and GB ports so I am hoping this will last a few years as its not the cheapest solution out there. On the not so good side, although it has AC WiFi, the range has been average, certainly a lot inferior to the BT Hub it replaced.I have not had the chance to try an AC connection, so maybe that will be better, but as it stands it struggles as a whole house solution. The other point is the interface is pretty basic. I would have liked for example parental controls and access hours. The unit is very lightweight although feels sturdy. A final gripe is to press the WiFi and wps buttons you need 2 hands as it is so light.

    Good but has firmware drawbacks

Easy to set up and for me it is very fast, I have a very good 4G signal on EE.The firmware seems to have reduced functionality when compared to the same router provided by others. For instance the version I have doesn’t report the data used in the period and seems to have menu items missing like the configuration tabs for the two telephone sockets. So if anyone knows of an update or alternate firmware do tell…..

Great tech, but not yet for heavy internet usage

Great router, has a phone socket so you could also use the SIM contract to make calls.Speeds would have been 6x faster than my rural slow broadband, so I wanted to switch completely to 4G.Bad point is that the mobile phone companies insist you purchase a ‘mobile data/broadband’ SIM, you cannot use a normal ‘phone’ contract SIM (even though this device can make Calls, SMS and data). This is a shame as you can get a good deal ‘phone’ sim with unlimited data, but there are currently no ‘unlimited mobile data/broadband’ SIMs available. Highest I saw was 20GB so not great if you are a heavy internet user.Technology is here and would work great, but mobile phone companies aren’t keen to allow higher data amounts.

    Great router

Using it to provide broadband, via wireless, at my fishing cabin and it works as expected. Despite the fact that it is difficult to get a good data connection on a phone when at my cabin, they router, with its two provided external antennas, has no difficulty getting a good signal. It is better than my wired broadband at home, limited only by the fact that my service provider’s deal is not unlimited data, whereas my home wired connection is. Not an issue for me though, because I don’t need a lot of data in my remote cabin’s location. I did not rate battery life, because it isn’t battery powered.

    Same speed as Huawei B315

It has good performance but the speed is almost same as Huawei B315 when I compared both together. If you are not connected too many devices, then just buy Huawei B315 for cheaper price and same performance. When I tested with O2 and 3 networks, the overall download speed is 15mbps and upload is 10mbps.

    Reliable 4G router

Does what it says, picks up 4G and let s you route it around your house like a wired connection. Router software it self is very basic. but reliable and no issues with connection – though i do use an external antenna as well.

Easy to get up and running

Whilst it’s not as cheap as some of the 4G routers out there, this product works well for me. Using my Note 4 I can just about get an intermittent 4G signal on my phone at home. This router consistently gets a signal and when used with the TECHTOO external antennas I get 4 out of 5 bars of signal most of the time, compared to 1 to 2 without them. This doubles my speed both up and down. Easy to get up and running, would definitely recommend.
